DAQMAN’S NAP IS ON FIRE: Daqman has a passion for winners and his nap came back to form at Goodwood yesterday. Now he steps on the gas and goes for a real racing break with his best bet in the Thirsk Hunt Cup.

WON 2-1 PHOENIX PASSION (Friday nap)

NOW FOR GUINEAS VALUE:
Daqman provides three times the service for the first Classic of the season, the 2,000 Guineas today:

FIRST THE RATINGS two weeks ago but are the ratings first?
THURSDAY’S ABC explored the facts but will the 2yo form stand up?
TODAY’S VERDICT Daqman goes for value.. On BETDAQ, of course!

ROSALLION ‘FREE’ GUINEAS BET

⭕ 3.35 Newmarket (2,000 Guineas) ABC GUIDE: See Thursday Daqman

OUR FRANKEL. That’s what The Lads who own him are calling City Of Troy. In fact, the colt was given a mark as champion two-year-old just a pound short of Frankel’s. But..

He is behind Rosallion on a line through Alyanaabi, runner-up to City Of Troy in the Dewhurst and fourth to Rosallion at Royal Ascot.

There’s an old saying in racing about two-year-old form, ‘that was last year; this is this year.’ They still have to prove themselves from basically ‘have they trained on?’ to ‘have they grown and matured over the winter?’

In fact, it’s the Lagardere winner Rosallion whose Richard Hannon stable is in form and has won gallops impressively with stablemate Haatem, who has been tested already as winner of the Craven Stakes.

He beat Eben Shaddad in the Craven in the manner of City of Troy in the Dewhurst, yet Haatem can’t live with Rosallion on the gallops.

Aidan O’Brien can sometimes start the season sluggishly and is currently only 3-25 at home in Ireland and 0-6 in England, five of those on turf and all not even placed.

Last year Auguste Rodin flopped so badly in the Guineas, he was 12th of 14 before winning two Derbys.

City Of Troy may be the second coming but he is not in the same position as Frankel, who was trained at Newmarket and won the Greenham a couple of weeks before the Guineas.

I can’t back Troy today but, if his main rival, Rosallion,is on form, I can get a ‘free’ bet in the race.

The clear second-top rating, trained by England’s Guineas experts, the Hannons, must surely place at slightly better than evens (2.08) on the BETDAQ exchange and is good value to win at 8.4.

THE FORM CHOICE IS CHOISYA

⭕ 2.05 Goodwood LAYS LOGIC: Breege has been placed six times without winning since she broke her maiden, always a bad sign.

Back after a long holiday like Breege is Orchid Bloom, whose rating is raised 11lb for twice being placed in Listeds on the soft.

The hooded Marcella won at Chester, another turning track but a flat one, and left handed not right, without the hill finish of Goodwood.

In her favour is 13lb three-year-old allowance which has won this race three times in eight years.

Novus won a Group 3 on the soft at Newmarket but the race lacked substance and there’s more to be said for her Goodwood victory (1m soft) in August; not clear run and hampered.

But I’ll go with 6.4 BETDAQ offer Choisya; the Crisfords have hit a seam of form (3-5) and Choisya took on a big field here at Goodwood in August, swooping round the outside to beat Novus, who is now 9lb worse off.

MAJESTIC OFFERS ON BETDAQ..

⭕ 2.20 Newmarket William Buick has won this three times in six seasons from a low stall and the Frankel grey Theoryofeverything (out of 3) took William’s fancy as his partner in the Kincsem Stakes at Goodwood last summer when down the field from a poor draw.

Dutch Decoy (from the one stall today) beat Liberty Lane (next door in 2) at levels on the July Course but is now in receipt of 9lb.

On the Rowley Mile at last month’s Craven meeting, Dutch Decoy had to wait for room and just failed to catch Hafeet Alain (4), with fourth place going to Theoryofeverything, Majestic fifth.

Majestic (5) has been first and fourth in the last two Cambridgeshires over today’s distance of 1m 1f. ‘Big’ at 9.1.

So there we have it. The five best drawn have all raced already and are woven together in the best traditions of handicapping, though with seeming leniency toward Charlie Johnston’s Dutch Decoy.

Torito has won only on turning tracks and I have him down for Epsom in June after his success there last year. He has since been fourth in a Group 3 at Ascot and starts this season gelded.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 7.6 Theoryofeverything, 8 Dutch Decoy, 9.1 Majestic

EASY RYDER AT 9.6 IS THE NAP

⭕ 2.40 Thirsk (Hunt Cup) Northern Express beat Pisanello in this last year at similar weights, with Autumn Festival fourth but now more than a stone better with those rivals.

After landing five in a row in 2022, Autumn Festival became hard to win with, but has changed stables and has his first run for Ed De Giles here.

A 7f winner on soft-heavy, Thunder Roar has never won over a mile, which also applies to Quest For Fun.

Hiromichi stepped up in grade the last day but has to do the trick again from class 3 to class 2, with no help from the handicapper. La Trinidad is in a similar situation.

Racingbreaks Ryder landed a hat-trick last Spring but this year made a quiet start, down the field in the Newbury Spring Cup, first time gelded. I’m inclined to take that as the stepping stone to today’s race.

BETDAQ 9.6 taken.
