* CHALLENGE UPDATE: Daqman 34, Pricewise 14 (+319.66/-416.83)

TODAY’S IMPROVER: Daqman carries over into the Midlands Grand National his new value spotter, the Improver, which earned him three winners and a second (with place win) at Cheltenham.

SILVER LINING YOUR WALLET

3.00 Uttoxeter (Midlands Grand National) STATS: Only one winner in 10 years has carried more than 10st 12lb; only two over the age of nine; and only two favourites won.

MR INCREDIBLE (Willie Mullins) Yes, Cheltenham’s Mr Incredible has taken his winners home and left this one to break another record and bag this 4m 2f chase with 12st, his 150 rating 10lb clear of Iron Bridge.

The stats say that your horse needs to have won over 3m+ but you can’t say that of Mr Incredible or of Iron Bridge!

Incredibly, this eight-year-olds sole chase success was a beginners’ event at Naas (2m 3f) in November 2021, and he goes for this on the strength of places last year in the marathons, Warwick Classic (second) and Kim Muir (third).

His saddle slipped in the Aintree Grand National and that’s his target again, being quoted around 20-1; so, if you think he’ll win this, you should take a price now.

IRON BRIDGE (Jonjo O’Neill) Jonjo’s previous winner, Time To Get Up (2021) had scored over 3m 1f in a solid field at Wincanton, putting on 8lb for a rating of 138.

But Iron Bridge finished alone – only one other horse ran – when stepped up to 3m 1.5f after two strikes over 2m 4f.

Like Mr Incredible, his defeats over long distances have him one of the favourites for today: remote second in the Welsh Grand National; third in the Haydock Park Grand National trial last month.

* TODAY’S IMPROVER *
MY SILVER LINING (Emma Lavelle) This year’s Warwick Classic went to the super-honest grey mare, who gets in here with a nice weight to suit the stats.

Terrific run, raising herself 27lb, in the last year; four wins and two seconds, including runner-up when Iron Bridge was third in the Grand National Trial at Haydock (heavy).

Iron Bridge was giving 13lb that day but, on the face of it, a 4lb turnaround in the weights doesn’t seem enough for him.

Young Dev The grey, who was runner-up in this race in 2022 off 133, scored in a Limerick hurdle on heavy under today’s apprentice. Back to winning chase form in February but still on only 119.

Farceur Du Large Two wins at Sandown military meets in January and February have put him back on a losing mark and military success unreliable for chases under normal disciplines.

Truckers Lodge Won this on heavy in 2020 off 141 and scored at Sandown in December (Beauport second) for boy rider Freddie Gingell. Very in and out as a 12-year-old now.

Foxboro Another unreliable stayer; won 3m 6f soft at Exeter in December but beaten a total of 90 lengths in two races since.

Autonomous Cloud has had treatment for the cause of his being pulled up in the Welsh Grand National and is tongue-tied, too.

Ask Me Early Heavy-ground success at Exeter last month, first chase win for nearly three years.

Guetepan Collonges was a modest fourth a year ago and he, too, tries a tongue-tie.

Daqman’s 1-2: 1 My Silver Lining, 2 Mr Incredible

Check out movements since I noted these offers this morning: 6.4 Iron Bridge and My Silver Lining, 6.9 Autonomous Cloud, 7.8 Mr Incredible, 9.9 Guetapan Collonges and Young Dev, 14.5 bar.

IRISH HILL CAN BOUNCE BACK

2.10 Kempton A 2m 5f handicap hurdle to advertise Nicky Henderson’s blog. It must be painful stuff after 16 consecutive losers at Cheltenham: only one in the frame; eight PU.

He has a runner in the first race today – Persian Time – but clearly the Time you’re betting on is when things get back to normal.

Interesting that his jockey, Nico De Boinville, rides Kateira for Dan Skelton in this 2.10 handicap. The Skelton stable flag was firmly planted at Cheltenham for all time this week, with four winners.

Skelton has Harry on Boombawn and Kielan Woods on West Balboa in the same race. The man from the Midlands is doing a Willie Mullins already!

All three are good/good to soft winners, as is Irish Hill, who has finally shed 10lb of his extra burden for landing a hat-trick last season.

Harbour Lake returns to somewhere near his winning hurdles mark after failing to take to fences.but trainer Alan King is 0-15.

Titan Discovery seems on the upgrade and Alien Storm, first time tongue-tied for a further step up in trip, stayed on well the last day but made jumping errors and must improve on that score.

But Irish Hill’s main threat is surely one of the Skelton runners but which one? Kateira could put the smile back on De Boinville’s face after five PU consecutive for Henderson at the festival.

BETDAQ value 7.3 Irish Hill, 9.9 Kateira

VLADIMIR WINS THE SELECTION

3.35 Uttoxeter Another Irish trainer who refuses to go home with the Cheltenham loot, and stays on for more at Uttoxeter, is Gavin Cromwell.

The Navan adventurer went close in the Stayers Hurdle again with Flooring Porter (2nd 9-1), then landed a double back to back on consecutive days; the last one, Limerick Lace – ouch! – stuffed my bet of the day, Dinoblue (giving 5lb), by threeparts of a length in the Mares’ Chase, or Daqman would be on five consecutive winning naps!

Can he get my pound and my pride back with Evies Vladimir over the class-4 winners, Fortunefavorsdbold and Val Dancer. His form on heavy is 121.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
