GETAWAY GAMBLE IN CORK NATIONAL

⚠️ HEADS UP: Gavin Cromwell’s mare, Tokyo Getaway, commended by the trainer in BETDAQ Tips, was the medium of a gamble last night for today’s Cork Grand National.

Daqman goes with it but spots a 16.0 dark horse in his form-and-facts card for the race in alpha order:

⭕ 3.20 Cork (Cork Grand National) STATS: 9-10 winners have carried less than 11st in the decade. Only one favourite won in that time. The last two winners, Out Sam and The Gatechecker, are both back for more.

Ah Littleluck I’d say very little luck, after 14 straight defeats.

Ballymacaw Big, strong six-year-old, unexposed, and interesting off a featherweight switched to Enda Bolger’s yard. BETDAQ 50.0 this morning.

Bay Hill The Roche family have trained two Cork National winners for J P McManus, both Flat-bred and unexposed at the trip, like this one. Darragh O’Keeffe switches from last year’s winner, The Gatechecker. BETDAQ 16.0 this morning.

Cap York Just 1-9 since he started chasing a year ago, but his rating has risen on a par with his hurdles mark. Friendless in the market the last twice, starting 22-1 and 40-1.

Deadheat When he won at Wexford in August, they said the penalty would stop him, but he won again, eased down, in a Ladbrokes handicap at Punchestown last month, and is now up a total of 19lb. BETDAQ 7.9 this morning.

Dromore Lad You have to go back to 2017-18 for his winning form, but pleasing chase debut for new yard in September.

General Principle Irish Grand National winner of 2018 but has failed to complete five times in 13 defeats since.

Gun Digger Form beyond 3m, including pulled up in this race last year, is FPPP4 (fourth in the Ulster National in March)

High Sparrow As a 3m hurdles winner, his rider had confidence in his stamina when taking a 3m 1f chase on the soft at Kilbeggan. This is further still but stamina signs are good. BETDAQ 10.5 this morning.

Macgiloney Useful sort, won at Roscommon in July. Well-beaten third, staying on, when The Caddy Rose was runner-up at Gowran Park early last month. Prefers good ground.

Mick The Jiver Lost his form after ratings rise for easy 3m win at Navan last December but the grey has eased in the weights now.

Mindsmadeup Won the Galway Blazers and hurdles wins over 3m suggest stamina for this. Paul Townend booked. BETDAQ 19.0 this morning.

Out Sam The 2018 winner off a higher mark; fell last year. Third twice in Cheltenham cross-countrys last season. BETDAQ 14.0 this morning.

Prospectus Best form over half a mile shorter but in good hands and has a nice weight, up in trip for handicap debut; the more rain the better. Same stable as Tokyo Getaway.

Rocky’s Silver The grey won over further than 3m and good second on his return last month on soft-heavy. Cheekpieces back on.

The Caddy Rose Still on the same mark he was given for his first handicap a year ago, winning 1-8 since. Nothing in his pedigree to warrant this step up in trip but form improved this autumn for 3m-plus trips. BETDAQ 10.0 this morning but best form on good ground.

Tokyo Getaway Qualified for handicaps in the Spring, winning eight lengths on heavy at Clonmel. She had a spin over hurdles three weeks back with today in mind. Long distance should suit and medium of a gamble last night. BETDAQ 6.7 this morning.

The Gatechecker Third in 2018 and the winner last year. Sweetened up over hurdles in recent weeks. Blinkers back on. BETDAQ 11.5 this morning.

The Trigger Landed a five-timer on summer ground, including two chases. He’s 11 years old but remains in good heart at the right end of the handicap.

DAQMAN’S VERDICT: Out Sam and The Gatechecker are good prices to do the double, but history says it doesn’t happen. The big improver Deadheat makes the long journey from County Down, and High Sparrow has every chance, well fancied by Joseph O’Brien.

But Tokyo Getaway’s chase form and hurdles prep suggest shrewd targeting of the race by Gavin Cromwell with a featherweight, and punters have latched on. With much of the value gone, I also backed the hidden horse of the race, Bay Hill, 16.0. for last year’s winning rider, Darragh O’Keeffe, in BETDAQ exchange betting.

CLASS CHASE HAS AURA OF QUALITY

⭕ 2.40 Carlisle Two hot stables clash here in a race which has produced leading chasers (Many Clouds, Lostintranslaton).

Anthony Honeyball was unbeaten at Ascot yesterday with a fabulous hat-trick. He’s booked Harry Cobden (sole ride today) for Sam Brown, with Richie McLernon, who rode two of the three Honeyball winners yesterday, engaged at Huntingdon.

Sam Brown himself completed a hat-trick (two over fences) in novice events on soft-heavy at the start of the year.

But he has a tough task here against Imperial Aura for Kim Bailey (eight winners in 13 days), who has won three times after a break.

Runner-up in January to the Stable Plate winner at the subsequent Cheltenham Festival, the Aura went for the novices’ handicap chase there, and beat Galvin.

Galvin was my first Fortune Cookie (early birds) winner this autumn, and Imperial Aura’s rating puts him 7lb in front of Sam Brown under the conditions of today’s race. BETDAQ 2.83 this morning.

Black Op has an impressive record over the years but is giving away two years in age to the young pretenders, of which Brewin’upastorm has a good record when fresh.

⭕ 3.45 Carlisle This Cumberland Chase of 3m 2f, almost a mini-National, could see a double for the sire Getaway 20 minutes after the Cork Grand National.

His son, Sojourn (BETDAQ 4.5), another with Anthony Honeyball, is a winner twice after a break and has been backed in this morning, while his main rival, Very First Time, has eased.
