COOKIES LAND THE ECLIPSE: 172 POINTS UP: Back-to-back naps for Daqman and two winning Fortune Cookies out of two gave him three winners in a row yesterday across the cards at Haydock, Sandown and Naas. That sent Fortune Cookie profits soaring to 172 points from 10 winners and Daqman is now 34-23 up on Pricewise.
Saturday: profit on the day 28.65
WON 11-4 FREE WIND (nap)
WON 11-4 VADENI (Fortune Cookie, Eclipse Stakes)
WON 3-10 AUGUSTE RODIN (Fortune Cookie)
Friday: profit on the day 4.60
WON 1-1 ROCKET RODNEY (nap)
NAPS HAT-TRICK BID IS AT CHELMSFORD: Daqman bids for a naps hat-trick today at Chelmsford and goes for win-50 outsiders in the grand prix at Saint-Cloud.
DETTORI DOING WELL, SAYS GOSDEN
⭕ 2.45 Hamburg (German Derby) Frankie Dettori; remember him? He has his first Group-1 ride since Royal Ascot when he partners So Moonstruck, one of seven runners for Markus Klug, who has won it three times in the last eight years.
At Sandown yesterday, John Gosden insisted that he and Dettori were still best friends and he was pleased to see him âgetting out thereâ and riding in Germany and in the Belmont Derby and Oaks next weekend. âHeâs doing really well. Iâm over the moon with what heâs doing.â
His riding plans suggest that we will see Dettori only on the Thursday of the Newmarket July Meeting, not for Inspiral or any other on the Friday.
âThe Inspiral ride in the Falmouth is the ownerâs decision; I canât see Frankie risking a flight out on Saturday in the current climate,â said Gosden.
As well as Dettori on So Moonstruck, Marcus Klug has also engaged Richard Kingscote (Mylady) and Hollie Doyle (Wagnis) for the Hamburg Derby.
The race is a repeat of the most prestigious trials at Munich and Cologne. Recently at Cologne they finished: 1 Sammarco, 2 So Moonstruck, 3 Alessio, 4 Maraseem, 5 Schwarzer Peter, 6 Angelino.
Earlier the springtime Bavarian Classic at Munich was won by Lavello from 2 Sammarco, 3 Maraseem, 4 So Moonstruck, 5 Dapango, 6 Millionaire and 7 Lotterbov.
I shall have my pound on Alessio, unexposed grandson of the late sire Adlerflug, who got Alenquer, In Swoop (last yearâs Saint-Cloud Grand Prix fourth to Broome) and Torquator Tasso, 72-1 winner of last yearâs Arc under Rene Piechulek, who rides Alessio today.
THIRD REALM: BEST YET TO COME
⭕ 3.00 Saint-Cloud (Grand Prix, 1m 4f Group 1) STATS: Arc winners Treve and Waldgeist figure among the winners of this in the last seven seasons. Aidan OâBrien won it with Broome last year. Stalls 1-4 are seven out of eight.
Irish Derby winner, Hurricane Lane, last year went on to win the Paris Grand Prix later in July (very soft, Bubble Gift behind) but has the widest draw (out of 9) this afternoon.
The grey mare, Alpinista, five times unbeaten last year, mainly in Germany, won the Lancashire Oaks on the soft a year ago, but also has a wide draw (coming out of 7), on her first run back for 238 days.
Completing the front of the market, Sweet Lady splits Alpinista and Hurricane Lane in stall 8. She is a âvery softâ winner on the course but most of her form is around a mile and a quarter and she was beaten at Longchamp in her only start at 1m 4f.
High Definition, for OâBrien out of stall 3, has been kept mainly to a soundish surface. Hasnât won last year or this and is another whose best form is short of 12 furlongs.
Mare Australisâ profile is the reverse of that: kept mainly to 10-11 furlongs but has won both starts over 1m 4f, including the first race in the grand-prix series, the Chantilly version a month back.
In fact, trainer Andre Fabre has always thought of the Australia entire as an Arc horse, and his year has been geared to this test in the hoofprints of the same stableâs Waldgeist. Fabre also runs Baratti, Listed winner over Sweet Lady the last day.
When Third Realm won on soft at Goodwood in the Spring, I marked him down for the Hardwicke at Royal Ascot but he didnât get his ground.
He is officially rated 12lb behind Hurricane Lane (122) but the horse that beat Derby winner Adayar in the Lingfield trial last year clipped the wings of Lone Eagle (119) in that Goodwood race, going seven lengths clear.
Daqmanâs 1-2-3: I fancy Mare Australis (7.6 offers) and Third Realm (10.0) as improvers at a time of year when the obvious (Hurricane Lane 1.94 saver) is often overtaken. Thatâs my first three.
A STRONG NEWMARKET WHISPER
⭕ 3.20 Chelmsford Saeed Bin Suroor does not have the material of Charlie Appleby but what he has he places skilfully, as he did with Passion And Glory in the Gala Stakes at Sandown on Friday.
The trainer has had eight winners in his last nine racing days, and he boasts a 27% strike rate at Chelmsford.
This race is an excellent fillies Listed, so you have William Haggas, Andrew Balding and Roger Varian fielding for it.
But Soft Whisper appeared to have benefited from winter in Dubai, when making virtually all, with an impressive late surge of extra speed, to win a handicap at Ascot in May, giving a stone and a half to the runner-up.
Soft Whisper is also a winner at Newmarket and won the UAE Guineas on dirt so todayâs man-made surface should be no problem.
Bounce The Blues has black type for five places – one win – at listed level, and Internationalangel returns 17lb higher to Chelmsford, where she landed a four-timer in low-level handicaps last backend.
She Do beat the useful Gale Force Maya at Newmarket in October but has been seen just once since then. Her two successes have been on turf at 6f.
Betdaq Betting Exchange value 3.2 Soft Whisper
SWEEPING DOWN THE SUMMER MILE
⭕ 4.02 Ayr (Summer Mile) Tilsitt is always worth a pound at Ayr, where he has won three races but looks a shade high in the handicap now and those punters following âRoyal Ascot losersâ will want to be on Sweeping, who drops from class 2 there and is reunited with his winning jockey, Paul Mulrennan.
BETDAQ value 9.7 Sweeping
