SCORPION TO STING RIVALS

12.30 Lingfield Two non runners here but it still looks a tough race to solve. The handicapper though looks to have given a late Christmas present to Ventriloquist who is down another 2lb.

He ran well enough on his comeback earlier in the month after a spell in Hong Kong and was only beaten around three lengths over course and distance. He won over C&D in 2015 off a mark of 80 so I think off his current mark he is worthy of a bet.

Soaring Spirits is a model of consistency but I’m not sure I want to be backing him to repeat his course and distance success off a 4lb higher mark.

12.55 Haydock This looks an interesting beginners chase in which Scorpion Sid can build on his chase debut at Warwick when he was pitched in at the deep end in the race won by Kalashnikov. He was soundly beaten 30 lengths that day but will come on plenty for the run and there’s nothing near the calibre of Kalashnikov in opposition today.

He also gets the testing ground he relishes. His two wins over hurdles both came on heavy ground.

Slanelough is another that has form on testing ground and ran a reasonable race over fences last time out at Carlisle when fifth, not beaten too far. He looks a bigger danger than Diablo De Rouhet who may need a tougher test of stamina.

3.25 Taunton Railroad Junkie has been taking on better class opposition since his surprise win at Warwick in September. Although last of three at Wincanton he was only beaten 3 1/4 lengths by Capeland and also performed well enough last time out when fourth here at Taunton. He will find this task easier and can get back in the winning groove.

Glance Back is the obvious danger after his Bangor win last time out.
