DOUBLE UP GIVES DAQMAN STRIKES EVERY DAY THIS WEEK: Daqman made it six days of winners every day – eight in all – with a rare Saturday double across the cards at Ascot and Taunton yesterday. Not as easy as the prices suggest with the other Graded races won at 14-1 (twice), 7-1 and a gambled-on outsider of three. Daqman’s eight strikes included his first supernap of the year, and he now leads Pricewise 20-12 in their value challenge.

WINNERS FLOW: NOW FOR NEW LIST OF FORTUNE COOKIES: Daqman will be revising his Fortune Cookies list next week but one seemingly sure to be on it is First Flow. See below: Bailey Big-Time First In 25 Years.

TODAY: Only Lingfield left to try for a whole week of winners every day.

BAILEY BIG-TIME FIRST IN 25 YEARS

A star is born! The big three lined up for the championship-test Clarence House Stakes at Ascot yesterday.

But Politologue (second), Waiting Patiently (third) and Defi Du Seuil (fifth), all champions of yesterday, lost their lustre as a new star soared sky high in the two-mile cosmos, First Flow.

Politologue set a demanding pace but First Flow came to him and put him on the line. For a while they matched strides but, as First Flow did throughout the race, he responded with exuberance to the sheer courage and drive of jockey David Bass.

And, in typical two-miler style, horse and rider took no prisoners and jumped themselves into contention for Cheltenham, hardly putting a foot wrong.

Victory marked a major achievement for trainer Kim Bailey, so long in the doldrums that First Flow was his first Grade-1 hero since Master Oats won Cheltenham gold in 1995.

That’s so far back in racing terms that other trainers around him in the winners’ enclosure in those Gold Cup years included Jenny Pitman, Toby Balding and Robert Alner, a lost generation.

Bailey made a terrific comeback last year and, just when 2021 threatened to be an anticlimax with Imperial Aura’s even-money unseat at Kempton, he has won the Clarence House, stepping stone to the Champion Chase for such as Master Minded, Sprinter Sacre, Sire De Grugy and Altior.

⚠️ At Lingfield there are 16 non runners at the time of writing but at least it is on – for now – there is snow falling at the track. Hopefully amongst the low stake recommendations I can bag a winner to complete the set for the week.

HE IS THE PIRATE KING

⭕ 1.40 Lingfield By far and away the best race on Sunday’s card but also the race, percentage wise, that has cut up the most with three of the original seven now out.

It leaves Pirate King as the NAP on the card.

The Charlie Fellowes trained runner loves course and distance. He won three C&D’s in a row last year and only found favourite Al Zaraqaan too good in a similar class 2 event last time out in December.

Kieran Shoemark has built up a good relationship with him and the partnership can be expected to make their move approaching the furlong marker.

Despite the small field we should still get a reasonable price as the Simon and Ed Crisford runner Myseven is a proven performer on the all-weather (3 from 3) but only had a head in hand when winning a class 4 at Newcastle last time out and is harshly up 5lb for that win – not to mention two rungs in the class ladder.

CATCH MAY LEAVE THEM BREATHLESS

⭕ 2.10 Lingfield Catch My Breath is up 6lb for his course and distance win last week but he looked to score with plenty in hand and the excellent Laura Pearson is huge value for her 5lb claim. A repeat win looks on the cards here for the grey.

Chief BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE rival Always Fearless has proved a bit frustrating for Richard Hannon this season but should run his race for Thore Hammer Hansen – the fourth different pilot on Always Fearless in as many starts.

POWER TO CUT LOOSE

⭕ 4.10 Lingfield Trainer Robyn Brisland is 5 from 19 and Power Over Me has contributed greatly to those stats with two wins from two in 2021.

He takes another hike in the weights and will need to improve again but that looks entirely possible given this is just his sixth ever start and only his third run for his new stable which seems to have sweetened him up. The draw has also treated him kindly in two today.

Several of his rivals are looking high in the weights including Grey Galleon who has yet to win on the all-weather.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
