THE SEASON’S ‘EXCEPTIONAL’ SUPERNAP WINS: His profit on the day was way below target, but Daqman’s Newmarket supernap was his biggest of the season. ‘Quorto is quite exceptional’ was the headline, as he staked the two-year-old to win 40 points at 2.64 on BETDAQ:

WON 5-4 QUORTO (supernap)
WON 11-4 BEAT THE BANK

DAQMAN GOES 30 HITS AHEAD OF PRICEWISE: His two winners took the value challenge with Pricewise to 47-17 in Daqman’s favour, with Daqman +62 and Pricewise -74 to a single-unit level stake. Next stop Irish Oaks weekend at the Curragh.

LOUIS SHOULD SCORE FOR FRANCE

1.10 Maisons-Laffitte (Prix Eugene Adam) Kew Gardens turned around Epsom Derby form with Dee Ex Bee when they were first and third in the Grand Prix de Paris last night.

Now England tries to score against the French in today’s Group 2 via John Gosden’s Crossed Baton, though Louis d’Or is strictly the form horse, as a Classic-placed colt.

Typical of the topsy-turvy Classic form this season, Louis was last of 11 in the Longchamp Guineas but third in the Chantilly Derby, just ahead of Intellogent.

I tipped Intellogent in this column for last Sunday’s Group-1 Prix Jean Prat at Deauville, hoping there was something solid about the French Derby form, and was rewarded with a 10-1 winner.

You could now get carried away about Louis d’Or, particularly with trainer Tony Castanheira talking him up for the Arc.

I’m still worried about Louis. He’s had four races this year without success and has started friendless at 38-1 and 66-1 in his two Classic runs.

But, equally, it goes against the form to back Crossed Baton, who was beaten four and a half lengths by Hunting Horn at Royal Ascot. Hunting Horn was only sixth behind Louis d’Or and Intellogent in the Chantilly Derby.

The form of Native American and Gyllen is all on soft and heavy ground so we have no real idea what to expect.

Both will be hoping that the Maisons ground has been well watered, whereas Cross Baton needs it to stay firm. Louis d’Or is less complicated. But the small field makes it hard to be confident; tactics may win the day.

PETTICOAT RULES FROM ONE STALL

3.30 Killarney (Cairn Rouge Stakes) Killarney, the only Flat meeting in England and Ireland today, features this Listed for fillies and mares to get some black type, named after the 1980 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner, Cairn Rouge.

We should have a euro on the outcome, if only because the results by draw (all past winners came from stalls 2 to 6) suggest a bias which tilts the odds in the backer’s favour.

Or, to put it another way, if you are a layer, you might want to make offers which tempt punters to bet on Most Gifted (stall 7), Clear Skies (8), Hence (9) and Damselfly (10).

Petticoat, a 3.45 offer in the BETDAQ orange this morning, was third of 12 in the race last year when drawn 10, with the other placed horses around her coming out of 2, 3 and 4. Today she has the one stall, and looks hard to beat.

Jessica Harrington won last year with a 96 rated from gate 2. That’s where Rickrack is installed today but she is only an 87, rated more than a stone behind Petticoat.

Panstarr (stall 4) has form mainly on soft ground. Bella Estrella (in 3) was fourth when Clear Skies was second and Damselfly fifth at Gowran Park (Listed) in May.

OKOTOKS OK DESPITE TOP WEIGHT

3.35 Perth (Silver Cup) Fergal O’Brien prepped last year’s winner of this, Tangolan, with success on the Perth course 10 days earlier.

Today his top weight Okotoks, offered early mouse at 3.5, makes a second journey North three weeks after scoring at Hexham under the same jockey as Tangolan, Paddy Brennan.

Honourable Gent was never a good jumper of hurdles but, as can sometimes happen when they’re faced with the effort and interest needed to surmount the bigger obstacles, he has skipped over his fences and won three in a row, though in lower class and attracting 11lb extra overall for doing so.

The reverse happened with Old Salt. He was ponderous at his fences and his success this Spring came when he reverted to selling hurdles.

The next three home behind Endless Credit in a novices handicap chase over today’s CD at Perth in the Spring of 2017 all won afterwards. So did Endless Credit.

It was in a similar class-4 contest at Hexham this Spring. So he looks like a once-a-year-horse who’s had his win.
