13.5 GOLD-CUP COUP AS DAQMAN STORMS CLEAR: After a sequence of five seconds, Daqman determined to make a point yesterday and get back on top in the value challenge with Pricewise. In fact, he landed a 50-point bull’s-eye bet in the Gold Cup and followed up in the very next Cheltenham race.

WON 7-1 FRODON ( BETDAQ 13.5 bull’s-eye bet)
WON 11-2 ROCKPOINT (BETDAQ 7.6 taken)

NOW HE’S BACK IN THE LEAD AND BACK INTO PROFIT: Daqman now leads Pricewise 9-5, with a profit of +8.14 against Pricewise +6.83 to single-unit level stakes. Look out at Ascot at the weekend. Tomorrow: Horses to Follow.

HOLD YOUR BREATH UNTIL ASCOT

Use your brain Daqman! The worst thing about tipping from race analysis comes when there is no clear-cut result, and you make out good cases for several runners.

So it is that I put the ratings spotlight on Brain Power (WON 7-1) in Saturday’s International at Cheltenham and on Thursday warned readers that Here’s Herbie (WON 14-1) was ‘worth a pound’.

Meanwhile, I tipped five seconds in six races, and missed out on Drivers Lane (WON 3-1) when he switched races.

I didn’t use my head at a time of dramatic weather conditions and do what I usually do, tip more than one in a race, particularly in close-handicap feature events.

BETDAQ allows that because of the huge odds available: just look at yesterday’s 13.5 Frodon. Incredible.

I want to do the same thing at Ascot on Friday and Saturday: no not the 222202 of the first day but the 51-1 double of yesterday, when single bets made 48 points profit on the day.

I shall have a look at the meeting next week but the first horse I spot is Angel’s Breath in the Supreme Novices Hurdle trial on Friday.

The Nicky Henderson prospect has swerved one or two chances, and clearly the master trainer of young horses wants him right first time. He regards Angel’s Breath as high class with ‘an enormous future.’

Saturday’s feature is the Long Walk Hurdle, won three times running by Big Buck’s; also three times by Reve De Sivola and in 2015 by Thistlecrack.

IT’S BLISS TO FOLLOW BRYONY

12.10 Southwell Fresh from her Frodon triumph (the post-race interview was almost as breathtaking as the race), Bryony Frost has just the one ride here today, Midnight Bliss, 3.7 on BETDAQ early mouse.

The mare needs all of Bryony’s verve, as one who only just does enough but has been skilfully placed to beat modest opposition. That applies again today.

Corner Creek made all here in October and now drops back to that winning grade. Apachee Prince hasn’t taken to fences so far but punters made him favourite this morning because Richard Johnson rides. I’d rather weight for him on Stony Mountain.

12.40 Southwell Caroline Fryer, striking at 40% with her chasers, could well be planning a double out of her Norfolk yard today.

As well as Midnight Bliss, she runs Southwell-CD-scorer Riddlestown (BETDAQ 19.5) in this one. He, too, has had a break since the summer and much depends on the fitness of her two in these opening races.

I fancy a pound on Chasma (16.0 offers), another CD winner, who – through Manwell – had the beating of Boughtbeforelunch before that one dropped out of this as favourite.

1.10 Southwell Umbrigado paid back a little of his £160,000 purchase price when taking a bumper at Uttoxeter that was no more than an extended home gallop. You should get around even money.

Moayadd was a winner three times on the Flat to reach a mark of 78, scoring in class 5, 6 and 7.

How then is High Acclaim (20.0 for this hurdles debut) also a 78 after taking the Spring Mile at Doncaster (class 2) when an 81?

STONEY MOUNTAIN LOOKS SOLID

1.45 Southwell If Earlofcotswolds wins the opener at Carlisle (12.20), it would be a pointer to his Market Rasen conqueror, Seemingly So, in this one.

Even so, Stoney Mountain looks solid at this level. He has form with yesterday’s Bristol Novices Hurdle favourite, Aye Aye Charlie, and second favourite, Doux Pretender. He beat Charlie gamely at Aintree in October.

2.15 Southwell Kimberley Point gives lumps of weight all round, but this is only class 4, and she is favourite to follow up her CD success here and complete the hat-trick.

Donald McCain had four winners on Friday and, if you restrict your form findings about Birch Vale to two miles or so, you get 121. You can forget her run back after a break, when she encountered a quagmire at Ayr. I took 6.4 in a 10-3% overround orange, which allowed me a saver on the favourite.
