BACK-TO-BACK SUPERNAPS UP: Daqman landed another supernap with Al Qareem at Nottingham yesterday, following on Sunday’s Prix Harcourt maximum-stakes bet at Longchamp (Map Of Stars WON 4-9). He is showing a daily profit in the last two days. His Lays Logic is now 4-4.
Wednesday: profit on the day 2.88
WON 4-6 AL QAREEM (supernap)
WON 2nd 5-6 (Lays Logic) MUTASARREF
Tuesday: profit on the day 8pts
WON 5-1 BETTER TOGETHER (Deauville)
WON 11-4 FAHRENHEIT SEVEN (Pontefract)
AYR WE GO AGAIN! Daqman had Grangeclare West (3rd 33-1) and Nick Rockett (WON 33-1) top of his Aintree Grand National preview in mid-week before Saturday’s big race. Can he do the same with the Scottish Grand National a Ayr on Saturday?
SCOTTISH NATIONAL QUEST
⭕ 3.35 Ayr, Saturday (Scottish Grand National) STATS: The Irish attack renders traditional stats threadbare, and you can bet Willie Mullins will get the blame.
I sifted Aintree Grand National form, facts and recent history and named first and third (both 33-1) in my preview last Tuesday.
But doing the same again with 33 left in the Scottish version – 11 for Mullins – reveals only that it’s a wide-open race.
RECENT FORM: Five of the last six winners had scored in their previous race; the other one was second. AGE: Eight out of 10 winners were a single-figure age, younger than 10.
But Magna Sam and Flash De Touzaine, two of just four last-time-out winners, are 10 and 11 years old.
That leaves only Brandt and Olympic Man with those combined credentials. Brandt won the Dublin National the last day and is raised 10lb, though the booking of Sean Bowen should help.
Olympic Man is one of the Mullins team, for whom there are no riding plans to date. But perhaps we shouldn’t worry too much about the jockey.
Stable No 1 Paul Townend last year chose Spanish Harlem (6th at 12-1) and Danny Mullins won it on Macdermott at 18-1.
Surrey Quest, who was beaten just a nose last year (similar weights this time around), went on to finish third to Magna Sam in the Edinburgh National in February.
He is 8lb better off at Ayr today but needed that and more to be sure of reversing the placings.
Surrey Quest, whose trainer, Toby Lawes, is getting 100% out of his runners according to the Racing Post’s RTF, is the only one in the race by a recent Scottish-National-winning sire (Milan).
HAVANA ANOTHER GO..
⭕ 3.37 Lingfield Havana Joy, who has made a consistent start, drops back to 6f after beating the favourite at Wolverhampton at that trip but going down a length to a Kevin Ryan late finisher.
Charles Hills has scored three wins out of his last five runners, and the Annsar stable of Jack Jones has gone into hiding in the markets after a losing favourite seven runners ago.
SPs since then: 80-1, 16-1, 28-1, 150-1, 128-1 and 18-1.No horses placed.
Clive Cox (Cupola) has quickly wilted after he also had a favourite beaten at the end of March and his three runners eased to 12-1, 28-1 and 14-1.
BLUE LOOKS BACK TO FORM
⭕ 4.20 Hereford This is the kind of stuff you get Spring and summer jumping: the favourite this morning, My Virtue, has been absent for 338 days and the rank outsider, Eclectic Anne, 354 days.
I’m picking Mistral Blue, down a stone in the weights, plus a 7lb allowance, back to form here at Hereford the last day. BETDAQ 4.2 taken.
Hola Hermosa is a cast-off from the tables of Fergal O’Brien, who trains Mistral Blue!
Portobello Girl has been beaten a total of 119 lengths in three starts over hurdles and Darceys Glance 110 lengths in four starts.
Jackie Can probably can not. I’m quoting the probabilities of the mare’s last three starts at SP: 100-1, 50-1 and 28-1, albeit she was third here at Hereford on good ground recently.
ONE TO BE ON YOUR SIDE
⭕ 4.53 Hereford Christian Williams runs two but the signs are all for Side Stepper, with Cave Article’s best form on soft ground.
Jack Tudor’s pick, Side Stepper showed such ability in long-distance hurdles on summer ground that he twice started favourite on a summer surface.
This first chase over such a trip will be difficult to lose off such a light weight, getting a hefty lump from all but an 11-year-old, Hey Bud, who is 0-15 over fences. Betdaq Betting Exchange 5.9 taken.
Mistymal was winner and third here at Hereford in the autumn but has run stinkers since, though might bounce back. ‘Might’ as a probability has to be bigger than this morning’s 4.6 offers.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….
Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
