ASCOT COUNTDOWN: BETDAQ GOLD: It’s evens or better the field for the Gold Cup with BETDAQ, though most leading bookmakers bet a shade of odds on. It’s a similar story if you want to oppose the favourite, with one of the market leaders an incredible TEN points better on BETDAQ.

HAYDOCK ‘HIDDEN HORSE’ TONIGHT: Daqman naps at Nottingham this afternoon but finds longer odds at Newbury (14.5) and at Haydock tonight (9.2 about a ‘hidden horse’).

ROYAL ASCOT GOLD TREBLE?

4.20 Ascot Gold Cup (Royal Ascot, next Thursday): Yeats was the last word for me. He was one of those (like Enable this season, I hope) who caught my eye early and went on – and on – winning. He landed four consecutive Gold Cups (2006-9).

In fact, his trainer, Aidan O’Brien, has won seven of the last 11. The world and his wife ‘got on’ last year, when he scored with Order Of St George,. But I go for a personal hat-trick next week after Trip To Paris did the business for me in 2015.

WON 12-1 TRIP TO PARIS (2015 Ascot Gold Cup)
WON 10-11 ORDER OF ST GEORGE (2016 Ascot Gold Cup)

Order of St George was a shade better than evens for his own double bid on Thursday in the BETDAQ ante-post orange this morning, though odds on with seven of the 12 bookies quoted in the Racing Post markets.

Second-favourite Simple Verse could be had at 11.5 on the exchange, though 7-1, 8-1, 9-1, 10-1 best, with the fixed-odds layers. Big Orange (11.0 on BETDAQ) was 8-1 with five of the main Post advertisers.

Beautiful Romance, 10-1 and 12-1 in places, was huge on the exchange at 20.0, and the bookies’ 14-1 Idaho was completely overshadowed by the BETDAQ 24.0. Most liquidity was for Order of St George.

SMART BET IS A PLACE ON BETDAQ

3.05 Newbury Trainer Owen Burrows is in terrific form, with his seven runners in the last fortnight all in the first four, two of them winners ridden by Jim Crowley, who is striking at 50% for the yard.

So there seems no reason why Talaayeb should not take this stepping stone to the Irish Oaks after her fourth in the 1,000 Guineas at Newmarket behind the very strong pair, Winter and Rhododendron.

Today’s race, up from the mile at Newmarket to 1m 2f, should tell connections more about her Oaks chance. The dam was runner-up in the Park Hill but the best Dansili fillies, notably The Fugue, were mile-and-a-quarter.

The worry must be John Gosden’s Smart Together. The stable has won this twice in the last five years with fillies who came to the race seemingly of little account but both were heavily backed.

With the BETDAQ orange 8.4 bar the odds-on favourite, Smart Together is an astonishing 14.5 (definitely a trade horse) and gives you 175% profit on a place bet!

I shall put both Talaayeb and Smart Together in my Daq Multiples, with a bit each-way the Gosden. Don’t forget the yard is steeped in top fillies this year.

Gosden the punter’s godsend has won the Epsom Oaks with Enable and looks all set to add the French equivalent, Prix de Diane, on Sunday with Shutter Speed.

3.20 Nottingham George Bowen seems poised for this, down in the ratings and down in grade, whereas his nearest market rivals, Magical Effect and Syrian Pearl are both racing off a mark higher than they’ve won from.

7.40 Haydock Tom Dascombe is leading trainer on his local track, and his level-stakes return (nearly 100 points profit) suggests that he often wins at big odds.

Front-runner Calder Prince (9.2 on BETDAQ this morning) is back to his level on track, trip and ground which brought success over CD last Spring off a 9lb higher mark. A ‘hidden horse’ in that he’s better than t he bare form.
