BETDAQ VALUE TO GIVE DAQMAN A BONUS: Today Daqman starts with his usual outsiders but then finds two horses he considers strong bets; one he makes his nap at Southwell; the other he insists is a 2-1 shot, so he backs at the price he wants (3.0) but gets 4.5 BETDAQ value, giving him a fat bonus return.

OUTSIDERS OF QUALITY..

⭕ 1.05 Exeter This is as tight a contest (2m 2f handicap hurdle) as a handicap punter could wish for with the top seven horses spread over 6lb.

And the very next pair below them – both trained by Philip Hobbs but wide apart in the market – both have serious chances.

Guernesey has been out of the first four only once in the last year and is a CD winner, though most of his form is on a sound surface.

Pol Crocan was a cracking Wincanton winner on heavy last Spring; needing the run back in November.

Just below the Hobbs pair, Investment Manager improves race by race, the last day failing just threeparts of a length to give 17lb to the winner at Chepstow.

And right at the bottom is Trans Express… winner of this race for the last four seasons! He’s now 11, going on 12, and not in the same form as in previous years.

Of the top seven, Deeper Blue was runner-up over hurdles at Chepstow to the Aintree (Grade-2) bumper third at the Grand National meeting.

West To The Bridge has dropped 17lb down the ratings in the last year; Dan McGrue is a cast-off from Paul Nicholls; Eamon An Cnoic has won a slow race on heavy.

It’s two years since Champagne Court won and that was a chase, and even a 21lb drop to hurdles has seen him placed twice without winning; the handicapper keeps him on the same mark.

Birds Of Prey, a dual hurdles winner before raising his game to 98 rated on the Flat, has won twice after a break. His long holiday has not been about a serious issue.

Martinhal is 2-2 at Exeter on deep ground and had a run back in a quality hurdle at Aintree. He’s bigger and stronger this year and wears cheekpieces first time today.

BETDAQ value: The quality of a class-3 handicap is as good as its topweights and both Martinhal (BETDAQ 11.5) and Birds Of Prey (13.0) are up to the task.

DRINKS WAIT ON THE BAR

⭕ 1.50 Ffos Las Crossing The Bar’s finishing fourth three weeks back at Lingfield (2m, good to soft) was a good start over hurdles for a giant of a horse who needs a stamina test on soft ground.

This 2m 4f on heavy at Ffos Las should suit the strong galloper whose Carlisle win over 1m 6f on the Flat is a perfect ability sighter and put him on a mark which equates to 128 or so over hurdles.

That has him alongside the top weight in the next race on this card! Of course, Crossing The Bar is only four and still has to do the job, but receiving 7lb each from 121 (potentially) rated Dalamoi and 118 (officially) rated Lydford Lad begs for him to be backed.

Lydford Lad has had a third lot of wind surgery and the way he hung left then ducked right when scoring over CD here last month raises another red flag. Dalamoi’s 2m win, also here at Ffos Las, was not boosted before or after by the maidens he beat, so he needs to improve.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE 4.5 Crossing The Bar. I rate this horse a 2-1 chance, which would require 5pts to win 10. I took the 7-2 on BETDAQ, keeping the 5pts stake to win 17.50!

CARAUSIUS LOOKING 100%

⭕ 2.36 Southwell Carausius has won from the rear and won from the front at Southwell (2 wins out of 3); one on Fibresand and one – eased down – on the new Tapeta. I took around 4-5, which seemed generous.

His trainer, Charles Hills, is currently 2 wins from 4 runs, one of them at Southwell, and the stable is 100% in the Racing Post RTF check on whether his horses have been running to rating in the last 14 days.

Captain Haddock is a fish out of water on AW (0-5) and the main danger is Trinity Girl, who has won on Tapeta at Newcastle.

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
