SMART CHELTENHAM OUTSIDERS

Where do the winners come from? Daqman’s big-race analysis is back next week, exploring past results at the Cheltenham Festival with a view to winner-finding at this year’s four-day meeting the week after.

He will be taking apart the race results for every chase and hurdle every day one week ahead of the 2021 renewals.

The Coral Cup is an example. One thing he is checking out is whether past results at previous Cheltenham festivals are likely to have any bearing on this year’s race.

Sure enough, he’s already found that previous Coral Cup winners had finished close up in the race before; the 2019 scorer William Henry was fourth the previous year.

As for the 2017 winner, Supasundae, he had been seventh in a terrific Supreme Novices in 2016, when the 1-2-3 was: Altior beat Min beat Buveur d’Air.

Horses in last year’s Coral Cup and in the Supreme who have been left in the Coral Cup on Wednesday, March 17, include (BETDAQ odds or offers on the left):

25.0 BLACK TEARS (2nd Coral Cup) Placed in strong company before Christmas, and won the Quevega Mares Hurdle at Punchestown on Sunday, so could go for the Mares Hurdle.

46.0 CRACKING SMART (4th Coral Cup) Poor efforts in 20/21 season.

16.0 ALLART (5th Supreme) Shishkin and Abacadabras were one-two in this Supreme Novices’. Allart won his first chase in December (second horse home was Fiddlerontheroof).

13.0 BACHASSON (6th Coral Cup) Has won all five races since, among them the Limestone Lad Hurdle and the recent Red Mills Chase this year. Also engaged in the Stayers Hurdle.

21.0 ALFA MIX (7th Coral Cup) Well backed in three races over shorter trips since.

24.0 HEAVEN HELP US (7th Supreme) In good form the last day with big-field win in Paddy Mullins Mares Handicap`Hurdle at Leopardstown.

24.0 BIRCHDALE (8th Coral Cup) Modest this winter until blew away the cobwebs with staying-on third in Jumpers Bumper last month.

KING DID WELL

⭕ 1.30 Ludlow Alan King had a real glint in his eye after Tritonic’s 10 length win over the weekend and it’s hardly surprising. As I noted on Sunday, he tops my Triumph ratings with the caveat of ‘hard to quantify’ French Aseel possibly standing in the way.

King’s overall form is quite healthy leading up to the Festival and he can land a smaller fish here with Didonato who looks the answer to this three mile mares handicap hurdle.

The mare is unexposed – she was still running in bumpers in February and since then over hurdles has finished runner-up at Huntingdon and won last time out at Doncaster. There’s plenty of stamina in her pedigree so the extra distance should be a positive and she coped well enough on soft ground when fourth in a bumper here in February when doing her best work at the end.

Emma Lavelle is going really well with three winners from her last nine runners and Misty Bloom would come into this on the balance of her best form but she hasn’t shown that level for some time and was disappointing at Doncaster last time out when beaten 30 lengths.

A bigger danger may emerge from Wilde Spirit who seems to have a season ticket here at Ludlow and won’t fail for stamina or the ground having finished second on heavy over course and distance last time out.

KING’S ACES AGAIN

⭕ 1.55 Taunton Continuation of the theme 25 minutes later at Taunton when Alan King looks to hold the aces with Just In Time.

The seven-year-old brings some smart flat form to the jumping table – winning six races including on testing ground and all of his wins have come over 1m 4f+.

There was plenty of promise on his jumps debut at Newbury in December when he finished sixth to Good Ball in frankly a much better contest than this one. He was beaten 12 lengths and should know so much more about the game today after a decent break.

The form of that Newbury race has worked out particularly well with fourth placed Gowel Road going on to win his next two races, both at Newbury, and fifth placed Grumpy Charlie doing even better winning his next three starts – all at Chepstow!

2.7 at the time of writing on BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE looks more than fair for today’s nap.

MAY THE FORCE BE WITH US

⭕ 7.20 Chelmsford The final selection isn’t trained by Alan King but Richard Hannon as I switch to the flat at Chelmsford.

Market leader Arij isn’t one to trust at short odds – he’s started favourite five times in his career and been beaten on every occasion including when odds-on at Lingfield two starts ago.

Furthermore this looks a much tougher assignment for him and a safer play might be Lexington Force who is capable of further improvement and hopefully being gelded and stepping up in trip will translate as positives.

DAQMAN’S BETS (staked to win 10 points)
BET 2.3pts win DIDONATO (1.30 Ludlow)
BET 5.8pts win (nap) JUST IN TIME (1.55 Taunton)
BET 1.9pts win LEXINGTON FORCE (7.20 Chelmsford)

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
