FIVE NAPS UP FOR 166 POINTS: Daqman scored a Bank Holiday two from three yesterday and landed his fifth consecutive nap through Never Never (WON 2-1). With a notional level-stakes 20 points win on each, you would be around 166 points better off:

WON 13-8 Lawman’s Thunder
WON 5-4 Russian Realm
WON 11-4 Tioga Pass
WON 4-6 Adelaide (banker)
WON 2-1 Never Never

NEVER SAY NEVER WITH DAQMAN: Daqman started May with 15 winning naps out of 18, including eight straight bankers. Can he reach those heights again in the week before the Derby? Never say never.

I’m not that sure when a sequence becomes a ‘sequence’ but it’s always nice to hit five not out as I did yesterday when NEVER NEVER became the the fifth NAP in-a-row for 166 POINTS PROFIT (level stakes 20 points on each).

It was a close run thing in the end but no better man to have onboard than A P McCoy to persuade your horse over the line to win by a neck !!

The day started well at Windsor when Bazzana scorched home by 10 lengths to WIN at 4/5. That was one of only three bets on the day but unfortunately I bombed out in the final race when Ajmany ran an absolute shocker in the Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar and trailed in last. He clearly hadn’t read the script.

It’s one of those days today I’m struggling to know where to start. There’s plenty of interesting races but knowing which one to to put the crucial NAP next to is the dilemma.

I thought John Gosden had solid enough chances in both divisions of the maiden fillies race at Lingfield – but I’m not strong enough to recommend a bet. Toast Of The Town (4.40) has achieved by far the most but has to give weight away to younger and rivals that are likely to improve.

In the second division, half an hour later, Gosden’s Allegria may well improve from a promising Sandown debut but I don’t really relish the prospect of taking on the four debutants who hail from the Charlie Appleby, Sir Michael Stoute, Andrew Balding and William Haggas stables.

Soft ground has led to small fields at Leicester with just three runners taking part in the handicap at 4.00.

I thought Native Heart looked interesting in the claimer at 3.00. She is having her first race for Jamie Osborne having been claimed out of the Mick Channon yard and certainly a reproduction of her good second at Salisbury last time out could see her go close here. She is one of the few in the race that you can realistically see still being on the upgrade.

It’s a wide open market, even with two non runners this morning and Native Heart at around 5 looks more than fair value on BETDAQ.

I’m staying up late for the NAP though and hopefully making a shrewd move in opposing Shrewd with AP McCoy onboard in the final race at Huntingdon.

Shrewd is popular in the market thanks mainly to the McCoy booking and a debut second at Market Rasen. But he was well beaten that day and had also started to become disappointing on the flat (tailed off last of 23 in the November Handicap).

It’s with a degree of hesitation that I take on McCoy, especially after he did well for me yesterday, but I prefer the chances here of Mercers Court who makes a quick reappearance after unseating rider at Fontwell on Sunday when he had the race at his mercy.

DAQMAN’S BETS:
BET 5pts win NATIVE HEART (3.00 Leicester)
BET 7pts win (nap) MERCERS COURT (8.50 Huntingdon)
