HOW I DISSED THE HOT-POTS..

Douvan looks lonely this morning. There were five long-term odds-on shots in the Cheltenham markets, as last year when most got to line up at the 2016 festival, but now there’s just the one survivor.

After Annie Power, now Faugheen and Min are out of the festival altogether. But those of you who have been following my See How They Won Cheltenham feature won’t have burnt their fingers.

ARKLE I wrote up Altior in front of Min on January 12. Altior is the new odds-on favourite. Hope you were on at a price.

Second in the betting now is my Fortune Cookie, Yorkhill (check out the BETDAQ ante-post orange).

CHAMPION HURDLE I put black marks against Annie Power, Faugheen and Jezki. New favourites on BETDAQ: Buveur d’Air, Petit Mouchoir, Yanworth.

GOLD CUP I said Fortune Cookie ’Thistlecrack ticks most of the boxes” So does my feature See How They Won, and there’s more to come..

ROAD UNEXPOSED: BASTIEN SPECIAL

2.10 Hereford I found myself backing a couple of top weights running within half an hour of each other when I first went live on the BETDAQ orange this morning.

Trainer Colin Tizzard, on a rare visit to Hereford, and jockey Angus Cheleda are 3-6 in races like this and the unexposed Cotswold Road has been jumping fences well at home.

It’s a very poor race by any standards and this Flemensfirth out of a Sadlers Wells mare stands out on breeding, on promise, on home form and on those stats: a 7.0 BETDAQ nap.

2.50 Market Rasen Three BETDAQ market leaders separated by only 0.35 points at the time of writing, but I wouldn’t be happy on the favourite, Anchor Man.

Paul Nicholls rarely visits Rasen; when he has done so in the last five years, he has come out empty-handed (0-17).

Now with Harry Fry, Any Drama, a runaway bumper winner in Ireland, was not disgraced over hurdles in his first run back at Newbury.

But, of the front three, Bastien has gone to the head of the market (at 4.0), despite giving weight all round, as a smart dual winner who should be suited by this step up in trip.

There may not be much between Coole Cody and Kayf Adventure, placed together at Exeter, with the trip suitable for both. But Bastien might be a bit special, unexposed at this trip.

3.25 Market Rasen Sue Smith, who had two winners over hurdles last week, scored with another through Sharp Response at long odds on yesterday, swerving this race today.

Should we also switch and back her remaining runner in this, bridesmaid Mwaleshi, now 12 years old. He just can’t get his head in front, and his form on the course in the last 10 months is 2032.

Eminent Poet won at this level on the last day but it was a conditionals race and I normally ignore them for assessment purposes.

Ozzy Thomas, returned to hurdles, got back in the frame at Leicester on the last day but hasn’t won for nearly two years and both successes on his CV have come on a sound surface.

Awesome Rosie has been a bridesmaid (three times second) off the mark she was set after scoring at Wincanton as a novice 14 months ago.

I finally broke some rules and came out on the side of Eminent Poet on the grounds that he’s almost always in the frame, his fourth here a grade higher would be just about good enough to win this and, with his rider’s claim, he’s 6lb lower than he was that day.

DAQMAN BETS (staked 1 to 9 for strength except the nap)
BACK (to win 30 points): 5pts win (nap) COTSWOLD ROAD (2.10 Hereford)
BACK 6pts win BASTIEN (2.50 Market Rasen)
BACK 6pts win EMINENT POET (3.25 Market Rasen)
