THE WEIGHTS FOR AINTREE: DAY 1: Latest news on Cheltenham is that Nassalam will swerve the meeting to concentrate on the Grand National, for which Daqman’s ratings are revealed below. Tomorrow: the official handicap.

GRAND EIGHT FOR THE NATIONAL

⭕ 4.00 GRAND NATIONAL, 4m 2f 74 yd, Aintree, April 13 The handicap for the Grand National is revealed today, never knowingly short of a headline before and after the ‘world’s greatest chase’.

The Irish hold such sway numerically and for quality at the top of the ratings that, in effect, they depress the weights and give their medium and lesser hopes a big chance, too!

Daqman will analyse the handicap on Wednesday, alongside his own ratings listed for the top eight below:

168 Hewick (Shark Hanlon) Irish
167 Noble Yeats (Emmet Mullins) Irish; won in the race in 2002
164 Corach Rambler (Lucinda Russell) Scottish; won last year
162 Capodanno (Willie Mullins) Irish
161 Nassalam (Gary Moore) English)
156 Coko Beach (Gordon Elliott) Irish
156 Vanillier (Gavin Cromwell) Irish; second last year
155 Mahler Mission (John McConnell) Irish

DO THE HOKEY COKYTHO

⭕ 4.30 Market Rasen The penny appears to have dropped with Cokytho since joining Alex Hales and he can add to the trainers recent decent strike-rate of two winners from his last six runners.

His form tailed off when trained by Oliver Sherwood and wind surgery didn’t being about any improvement.

However a break and change of scenery seems to have worked wonders and there’s every chance he is now lurking on a very lenient handicap mark of 96 versus a career high of 114.

Cokytho finished second to Hokelami in a commentators tongue twister of a finish here at Market Rasen last time out.

A reproduction of that run might be solid enough to see off the challenge of chief Betdaq Betting Exchange rivals Living’s Boy An Co, a previous course and distance winner, who showed a little more at Sedgefield last time out and the Micky Hammond trained Onenightintown who scored at Catterick but the stable are still pretty quiet.

GOOD LORD!

⭕ 5.30 Newcastle Pallas Lord’s case is pretty compelling and doesn’t need me to dwell too much!

Let’s just put it simply – he’s bidding for a course hat-trick and is now DOWN in the weights.

He’s actually a pound lower tonight compared to his win in an apprentice race last week and Jason Hart is back in the saddle tonight.

He is remarkably consistent – not out of then first two in his last six races and should be able to continue with the upward trajectory.

THE SECRET’S OUT

⭕ 6.30 Newcastle This class 3 handicap is the feature of the night at Newcastle and the market is dominated by three last time out winners in Solray, Secret Guest and Azure Angel.

The first two are previous course and distance winners but in the case of Solray he is now up two grades and also 7lb in the weights which might just halt his progress after a 73 day break.

Azure Angel has a longer 226 day break to overcome and she is another yet to be proven at this level.

That leaves the race fit Secret Guest as the bet for me. He goes well over course and distance and has run well at this level previously.

DAQMAN’S BETS:

4.30 Market Rasen (win 10)

5.30 Newcastle (win 10, nap)

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
