DAQMAN’S NAPS ARE SOLID AS A ROCK: FOUR WINS OUT OF FIVE: Daqman made it four consecutive days with a winning nap when Marie’s Rock (WON 6-4) scored at Taunton yesterday. He had four naps up out of five in that time, taking his overall naps profit to just short of 80 points:

✔️ WON 6-4 MARIE’S ROCK (Monday nap)
✔️ WON 4-9 BATTLEOVERDOYEN (Sunday nap)
✔️ WON 4-6 THYME HILL (Saturday supernap)
✔️ WON 6-5 ALLHUMANKIND (Friday supernap)

2020 FORTUNE COOKIES UPDATE AND THE FINAL FLING OF 2019: Daqman’s horses to follow produced five winners around Christmas on the way to compiling his 2020 Fortune Cookies list, which will be published next week.

Today’s final-fling bets of 2019 complete today’s column.

FIVE HITS BUT NO MONEY SPINNER

Fortune Cookies. Plans for unbeaten Sam Spinner have had to be shelved, so he will not be among Daqman’s Fortune Cookies for 2020. He is out for the season, injured, after winning two races for us.

Our horses to follow prepping for the Cookies list had a fantastic Christmas with five winners. All will definitely make the list when it is compiled after the big New Year meetings tomorrow and Saturday.

Also withdrawn from engagements is Russian Bill. Those that may be tested this week are: Champ (Nicky Henderson) Cheltenham tomorrow; As You Like (Jonjo O’Neill) Musselburgh tomorrow; Envoi Allen (Gordon Elliott) Naas, Sunday. The five holiday hits were:

WON 11-2 DELTA WORK (Gordon Elliott) December 28, Leopardstown
WON 2-1 EPATANTE (Nicky Henderson) December 26, Kempton
WON 7-4 EASYWORK (Gordon Elliott) December 26, Limerick
WON 4-6 THYME HILL (Philip Hobbs) December 28, Newbury
WON 4-9 BATTLEOVERDOYEN (Gordon Elliott) December 29, Leopardstown

FINAL FLING NAP IS STRATUM

1.40 Lingfield Good to see an old hero of mine, David Elsworth, land two winners out of three in the Christmas period, starting with Entangling, at a time when he was featured on telly talking about Desert Orchid’s fantastic King George era.

As a Lingfield CD winner, Entangling (BETDAQ 3.0 taken) could get the better of Just The Man, who is up in trip, trying to be the flagship for Clive Cox while his yard is out of form (0-8).

1.45 Punchestown Sizing John’s back! The 2017 Gold Cup winner has been off the track two years, and faces a likely tactical contest in this hurdle.

More than half the field is trained Willie Mullins, who has won the race four times in eight seasons and is going for a hat-trick in it today.

Burrows Saint, his Irish Grand National winner, never really took to hurdles (1-8 strike rate, the only win being in his maiden), and today is surely a way of keeping him interested but maintaining his 156 chase rating for one or other Grand National next year.

Newmarket Cesarewitch winner Stratum (BETDAQ 4.7 taken) looks the likely lad, fourth in a Graded hurdle at the Punchestown festival in the Spring and with the ground in his favour this afternoon.

Saglaway took on some hot stuff last Christmas, third to the subsequent Cheltenham champion hurdler and a recent Graded winner, but his CV says he badly needs rain.

2.25 Uttoxeter Philip Hobbs has hit a seam of form since Christmas, with figures of 12213, and I can’t see him coming away from both Warwick and Uttoxeter without something to pay for the petrol.

His five-year-old mare, Evidence De Thaix (Richard Johnson booked), gave weight and a beating to a Venetia William’s favourite, Quick Wave, on the last day.

Now here she is against another from Venetia’s stable, Storm Wizard, who is rated 6lb less than Quick Wave and was himself turned over when odds on here at Uttoxeter 11 days ago, albeit over a longer trip.
