POT-OF-GOLD BETS ARE BACK: Yesterday Daqman said ‘go’ to his Fortune Cookies, top-line horses for Group races during the season, two of them likely runners at York from tomorrow. But he makes a second pledge for York today to continue an amazing run of big-odds winners, and to make more from them with his Pot Of Gold system.

TODAY: Following on from the abandonment of Windsor last night, Daqman looks to Beverley, Southwell and Wincanton to make up for the loss of his two selections at that meeting. However, he does air some caution about today’s racing ahead of the Dante Festival tomorrow.

MAY A MAGIC MONTH FOR DAQMAN WINNERS

Look out for more Pot Of Gold bets. May has been big for Daqman winners in the past and 2016 has started better than any season since 2012.

Pot-of-gold bets are triple value. You start by betting only in the BETDAQ orange with its low overround. Then you try to assess the prices for the race you want to bet in.

If you think your selection is offered too big, you back it ‘your odds’. So, if you get 20.0 about a 10.0 chance (in your reckoning), keep the required stake to win 20 points (i.e. 2pts) when you bet at the bigger value offer (2 x 20). Result: you double your money.

Here’s how May has been a big-hitting month for Daqman in the last four seasons. But just look at the way this year has started with huge hits.

MAY 2015: 82 points Saturday profit/105 points Fri-Sat/Irish Guineas double
MAY 2014: 15 winning naps out of 18/eight bankers in a row/French Guineas winner
MAY 2013: 115 points from eight bets/165 points in one day/268 in two days
MAY 2012: 33-1 winner/28-1 winner/155-point fling

HAVE FAITH IN KELTUS AT SOUTHWELL

Today is a day to be cautious. Races of Class 4 and above are few and far between today and there is not much to shout about. Today’s Flat action is of notably poor quality with York’s Dante meeting starting tomorrow. We can save a little for there instead.

3.10 Wincanton This is quite weather dependent. Kilbree Kid is the likely favourite, and rightly so, but he will not want to see any rain and there could be up to 9mm. With that in mind, I have an alternative selection, albeit for small stakes.

Minellahalfcentury is not the most reliable of sorts, but he is talented. He has a great cruising speed and jumps well but he can be risky. He didn’t put his best foot forward last time out and he is dropping massively in the handicap also having had a high mark of 137 previously and winning off 127. He runs today off 120 and in a small field with the possibility of rain, he’s the one to take one the jolly with.

3.30 Beverley Having one selection on the flat shows the quality today. A trappy race with some making their seasonal debuts.

Count Montecristo got off the mark on his final outing last season. He was beaten previously at long odds on which isn’t favourable and he hasn’t always show to be that willing. The changes in trip would suggest that connections are not fully sure what his optimum trip may be.

A more reliable option appears to be Farham. Richard Fahey and Sammy Jo Bell team up with this Haydock winner who only has a 2lb penalty for that victory. He seems to be a smart enough sort who mixes well with All Weather and Turf and is versatile in terms of ground conditions. Running here off a nice weight could prove the difference for this contest.

6.05 Southwell Back over jumps for today’s Nap. This looks like a really nice option for Keltus. He was well tried early on in his Novice Chase days and was highly thought of at the time. Having a very bad experience at Ascot in just his second run over fences dented his confidence hugely and it was obvious that it took some time for Paul Nicholls to get him back on song. A fall at Cheltenham last year didn’t help him either.

This is a marginally up in class from his last win at Hexham but his class should bring him through and this looks a nice race for him to win.
