MASTER HOBBS’ PUNTER’S PUZZLE

1.00 Taunton The Philips Hobbs trained last time out winners stand out in the opener.

The stable have saddled 7 wins from their last 33 runners and preference of the pair today is Masters Legacy who made a pleasing jumping debut here over the shorter trip in December when staying on in good style to beat the odds-on Eritage by four and a half lengths (Escapability was 3rd see below). That was a good effort and the extra distance should help further.

Hobbs also runs For Langy who is harder to assess on his UK debut. He quickened up nicely to win well over hurdles in France last June and may be the better longer term project, although the recent form (and jockey bookings) suggest Masters Legacy is the one for today.

The Harry Fry trained Green Dolphin showed plenty of ability in three bumper starts but was bitterly disappointing on his hurdling debut at Aintree when pulled up. That can’t be anything like his true form and a watching brief is advised here – the early BETDAQ signs are reasonably positive of a better run.

2.00 Taunton The Alan King trained Escapability was third in the Taunton race won by Masters Legacy so fingers crossed that one wins to give the form line a strong boost.

It was a much improved effort from Escapability over his Wincanton hurdling debut and this looks a weaker contest.

Chief market rival Shall We Go Now has been off the course for 673 days whilst the Hobbs trained Filou Des Issards may well have been flattered to finish a close up third to the long odds-on Wild Max here last month as the winner won with plenty in hand.

5.15 Southwell Not a bad little class 3 race and I want to be with Mosakhar who makes his handicap debut here after storming clear to win over course and distance last time out. It was a big effort and he remains lightly raced and progressive.

Glendevon looks readily opposable with a 1-20 CV and despite a tumbling handicap mark is facing the unique Southwell surface for the first time.
