DAQMAN HOT WITH WINNING NAP CALLED FROST: Daqman yesterday followed up Monday’s 12.5 hit with Carlton Frankie (WON 5-1) when Desert Frost (WON 7-4 nap) scored on the second day of the same Bank Holiday meeting at Epsom.

HOW TO TAKE WINNING IN YOUR STRIDE

Let me tip you the wink. The secret is out about Australia’s winningmost mare Winx (26 out of the last 26), and it should be part of your betting kit.

Winx, named after a Las Vegas burlesque hall of the last century, has a money-making act second to none that turns the roulette of racing into a cinch.

Her secret is a freak stride rate, which has been measured at up to 30 in 12 seconds. She can engage this phenomenal gear at any time during a race, and eat up the ground.

Check it out on your TV recordings against any horse you fancy. Or, better still, check out all the fancied horses in the next big race and look for differences in their actions.

Just so long as the ground isn’t inhibiting (rock hard or heavy), you could have a system that takes winning in its stride!

Look particularly for a change of gear. Instant acceleration is one thing that could reveal a potential star, though it could look good in moderate company and flatter. But stepping up a gear off genuine pace in a decent class of race is championship material.

Beware though that you might see an animal that’s seemingly cruising but producing nothing when he’s let down and asked a question, shirking the courageous bit at the business end. He’ll ‘find nothing’.

Just like the car of your dreams, you want one that ‘travels well’, can be ‘put anywhere in a race’, and then eats up the ground into the straight. No wonder they can’t catch Winx!

Here’s a bet at the bar. Name the horses in history with the longest winning sequences. Here’s my top 10 and how they compare with modern stars like Frankel and Zenyatta.

56 Camarero (Puerto Rico)
54 Kingcsem (Hungary)
26 Winx (Australia)
25 Black Caviar (Australia)
19 Peppers Pride (United Staes)
18 Eclipse (England)
16 Ormonde (England)
16 Ribot (Italy)
14 Frankel (England)
14 Nearco (Italy)

Winx was defeated early in her career. Here are others that were beaten at some time but had the following straight wins: 19 Zenyatta (USA), 16 Cigar (USA), 16 Sir Ken (England), 15 Bayardo (England), 15 Brigadier Gerard (England), 14 Phar Lap (Australia), 12 Spectacular Bid (USA), 11 Faugheen (Ireland), 11 Native Dancer (USA), 11 Nijinsky (England), 10 Annie Power (Ireland), 10 Sprinter Sacre (England).

DARLO DODS AT THE DOUBLE?

2.00 Catterick Darlington based trainer Michael Dods is still coming to terms with Mabs Cross – pipped ONE PIXEL in last week’s Nunthorpe.

Dods said: “I’ve not got over it yet. Everyone was telling me we had won, but I refused to believe it until the result was called.”

The trainer fries some smaller fish today at Catterick but a winner is a winner and Que Amoro should be just that in the opener at 2.00 over five furlongs.

Que Amoro has already achieved much more than her rivals and hopefully the cheekpieces going on for the first time today will also be a positive. Even her York defeat last time time out, when the soft ground was probably against her, doesn’t read so bad in the context of this race.

She has to give 7lb to Ginvincible but is rated 9lb superior and Ginvincible doesn’t seem to be progressing.

Que Amoro fits my SUPERNAP criteria of winning around seven for every 10 invested but let’s just for the trainers health, as well as ours, she’s in front by more than a pixel at the line.

3.20 Lingfield Dods could well make it two out of two today with Pomme De Terre in the seller here at Lingfield. The ground is soft which has ruled two of the runners out at the time of writing and that might well suit the selection.

We have to go back a while for his winning form but his early CV shows a win at Carlisle on soft and York on good to soft.

Plenty of water under the bridge since then and he’s now in the basement level – a grade of race not usually covered by DAQMAN’s modus operandi as, by the very nature of the race, we are dealing with largely inconsistent animals on the downgrade.

I think there are sound reasons for supporting Pomme De Terre though. Just two starts ago he finished second in a competitive 19 runner York handicap proving he still retains ability and the added bonus today is the softer ground which counts against several of his rivals.

Outback Traveller is hovering around even money on BETDAQ at the time of writing but is a riskier proposition in my opinion. He’s finished stone last in four of his last eight races and at the age of seven might just be falling out of love with the game which a drop to this grade might not be able to rekindle.

3.40 Musselburgh A class 3 handicap the highlight on a modest days racing.

I can make a case for all six here but there are stamina doubts for a few and the safest wager might be Rebel Assault.

Mark Johnston’s runner should find this a little easier after being competitive recently in better races at Newbury and Goodwood.
