STAKING PLAN COVERS THREE COUNTRIES: Mount Windsor (WON 11-8) at Lingfield yesterday maintained Daqman’s winner a day since the start of the jumps season proper, in which he’s had two winning naps out of three. He has one bet at each of Ayr (Scotland), Bangor (Wales) and Exeter (England) today. Get that one winner and the worst you can do is just about break even.

KEY RACES TO THE 2021 GRAND NATIONAL: In the next two weeks, Daqman explores the early clues to the Grand National, Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle, starting with key races to Aintree next April. Let’s see how they won. Today’s headlines:

🔹 THE TOP ROUTES TO AINTREE
🔹 DJANGO JUMPS OUT OF MUD
🔹 I’M IN FEET FIRST FOR TIGER
🔹 SPORTING SHOULD WIN DUEL

THE TOP ROUTES TO AINTREE

See how they won! Most punters have their horses to follow (like Daqman’s Fortune Cookies) but another way to win the big event is to follow the race itself and analyse the results.

Who wins it? What was their form and rating? Where did they come from? How far ahead might you have spotted the winner on his way up?

Let’s start with the Grand National. A long way off? Yet, with the race going to cross-country horses and winners of the Ladbrokes Trophy, the die could be cast in November, this very month.

The Glenfarclass cross-countrys, starting at Cheltenham on Friday, have thrown up a duel Aintree winner in 2017-18, Tiger Roll, and in Balthazar King had an unlucky second in 2014.

The dual winner of Friday’s banks race, he was perhaps one of the best horses not to win at Aintree in recent years.

If Tiger Roll, Easysland and Potters Corner stand their ground in the first leg of the cross-country series in two days’ time, you have a mini-National and a strong guide to the grand occasion at Aintree next April. The race will surely decide the favourite.

But will he last until the end of the month. Many Clouds (2014), the 2015 National winner, recently restored the prowess of the old Hennessy, which in 2017 became the Ladbrokes Trophy, due to be run at Newbury on November 28.

The race regularly has a golden age, not least when Mill House (Fulke Walwyn) and Arkle (Tom Dreaper) won it in the Sixties.

DJANGO JUMPS OUT OF MUD

⭕ 1.55 Bangor Arkle, who died 50 years ago this year, was owned by Anne Duchess Of Westminster, who is remembered in this 3m memorial chase this afternoon.

The favourite has won only once in the decade but Boldmere and Tidal Flow have the advantage of solid reappearance runs.

After a December double, Boldmere was all set for the hat-trick but hit two out at Wetherby in February. He was readied at Chepstow last month.

Tidal Flow has been placed every time in five consecutive chases over the past 12 months but his two wins came in small fields at a lower level than today.

The list of winning trainers in the race records has Venetia Williams on 4, Dan Skelton 2, and Alan King has won 1. Venetia has been struggling for winners lately but is always dangerous when the mud is flying.

Her grey Yalltari hasn’t won for nearly two years but scored four from five on soft-heavy in those days.

He took top novice events at Chepstow which saw his chase rating go a stone clear of his hurdles level.

Of those like Yalltari who haven’t been seen over the jumps for between 244 and 670 days, Notachance has run three times after a break and been placed every time.

He is one of two young bloods here but he, too, has chase form – he’s on a mark of 132 – which has quickly sent him clear of his hurdles rating (121).

However, Notachance is up against a ‘hidden horse’ here, the grey Django Django, who beat him easily in January in a bog like today at Newbury, and is disguised by his defeat at Ascot on his return last month because it was a Graded race.

All his success has come when ridden by Jonjo O’Neill Jnr, who is back in the plate today. Jonjo Snr admits he’s an in-and-out horse but that’s normal for the yard. I took 11.0 on the BETDAQ Betting Exchange.

The other young blood is Captain Tommy, probably unlucky here at Bangor in September when, challenging the winner at the last, he made a mistake and was beaten a length. The ground didn’t suit that day but he’ll love it here. BET DAQ 13.0.

⭕ I’M IN FEET FIRST FOR TIGER

12.35 Ayr Those Tiger Feet (BETDAQ 3.1 this morning) has won before after a long absence, and he looks primed for this race, wearing cheekpieces for the first time.

‘Tiger’ is the only traveler for Kim Bailey, who is currently on the crest of a wave (8-27), and he’s the only ride for David Bass, 10 winners in a fortnight, three out of four at one stage last week.

SPORTING SHOULD WIN DUEL

⭕ 3.10 Exeter Here’s another race that can help you see into the future. Last year’s winner went on to take the Henry V111 Novices’ Chase at the Sandown Tingle Creek meeting.

The Colin Tizzard squad is still below par (3-36) and Fiddlerontheroof’s second to If The Cap Fits at ffos Las was let down by the winner’s defeat in a three-horse affair on Sunday.

Philip Hobbs (Sporting John at BETDAQ 2.32) had a purple patch at the end of last month, though is now in not much better shape than Tizzard (5-36).

But Sporting John has won on his debut and after every break since, was 2-2 over hurdles here at Exeter and went on to land a hat-trick before starting second favourite to Envoi Allen in the Ballymore.
