TODAY: Irish 2,000 Guineas form and stats guide

TOMORROW: Irish 1,000 Guineas

THE IRISH 2,000 GUINEAS FORM

⭕ 3.20 The Curragh, Saturday (Irish 2,000 Guineas) STATS (20 years): Ireland 12, England 8; some 14 winners ran at Newmarket the last day. Trainer: Aidan O’Brien 8 (11 overall). Jockey: Ryan Moore 2 wins, 3 placed; Frankie Dettori 1-3; Colin Keane 1-2.

RATINGS of winners (10 years): 114, 110, 119, 122, 106, 122, 107, 112, 114, 115. Saturday’s runners are in ratings order, with N = Newmarket run latest.

122 Native Trail (N) National Stakes and Dewhurst winner: took the Craven Stakes before runner-up in the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas; kept on but always held by stablemate Coroebus.

110 Buckaroo Beat Stone Age in a Galway maiden last July, but slowly away and short of room behind Atomic Jones and Stone Age in the Champions Juvenile at Leopardstown in September, and fourth when Stone Age was second in the Criterium de Saint Cloud.

Kept his form this year: headed final strides by Piz Badile in 1m 2f Ballysax, with Duke de Sessa third. Quickened clear of Wexford Native the last day in the Tetrarch Stakes (1m) here at the Curragh three weeks back.

107 Ivy League Steady progress from maiden win at Dundalk in early April to clear win in Naas handicap and split older pair (rated 105 and 109) in Group 3 at Leopardstown 13 days back.

105 Duke De Sessa 10 lengths behind Native Trail in the National Stakes before Group-3 win over Piz Badile but behind the same horse in the Ballysax in April and even further in rear of Stone Age in Leopardstown Derby Trial.

105 Imperial Fighter Two lengths behind Coroebus at Newmarket in the autumn before similar distance off Luxembourg in the Doncaster Futurity. Denied clear run when third on his reappearance at Newcastle to a colt who finished 10th in the 2,000 Guineas.

104 Atomic Jones Led at the finish to beat Stone Age a head in the Champions Juvenile at Leopardstown in September, with Buckaroo (slowly away) sixth but, never on terms, nine-lengths fourth to Stone Age in the Leopardstown Derby Trial earlier this month.

102 New Energy Kept on, third in the Leopardstown 2,000 Guineas Trial (The Acropolis second) and third to Buckaroo and New Energy in the Tetrarch Stakes (1m), reversing the form with the Guineas Trial winner, Dr Zempf.

102 The Acropolis Third in the Curragh Futurity in August and second in the 2,000 Guineas Trial (New Energy third) before passing beaten horses from the rear, ninth, in Sunday’s French 2,000 Guineas.

102 Wexford Native Lightly raced maiden winner in March, split Buckaroo and New Energy in the Tetrarch Stakes (1m) at the Curragh early this month.

100 Boundless Ocean (N) Beaten a head by Malex in big field in March and broke his maiden 12 days later at Leopardstown (1m 2f) before weakened, 13th, in Newmarket 2,000 Guineas.

098 Malex 420,000gns yearling buy, the Kodiac colt won his maiden narrowly from Boundless Ocean but was short of room and eased behind Buckaroo, Wexford Native and New Energy, fourth in the Tetrarch Stakes.

BRILLIANT BID DOWN IN CLASS

⭕ 3.20 Ayr (1m 2f Listed) Paul Mulrennan, who has established a solid reputation, riding mainly in the North, bids for his 100th winner at Ayr today in only four years.

He rides in earlier races but has an eye-catching booking in this fillies and mares Listed for Jessica Harrington, who drops Irish raider The Blue Brilliant back from failed attempts at 1m 4f.

The filly won back-to-back over 10 and 11 furlongs last Spring and summer, and ran her best yet when pipped on the post in a Deauville Group 3 by Penja, who next time out was herself just nosed out of a Group 2.

The Blue Brilliant was rated 105 at today’s trip and, if coaxed back to her best, has between 7lb and 27lb on this field, barring the grey mare, Angel Power.

Angel Power is officially 2lb clear today but trainer Roger Varian continues in the doldrums (1-29) and you have to go back to October, 2020, to find her last winning form in England.

This is the second time City And Suburban runner-up Achelois has tried to step up to Listed level; in the first bid for black type, she finished fourth in a big field at Doncaster at the last meeting of the 2021 season.

With her stable in incredible form (William Haggas 42% strike rate), My Astra, two out of two last summer, must be a big danger to all, though she has been beaten favourite the last twice when placed at Listed level, unlucky half-length third in the Snowdrop at Kempton run at a false pace.

BETDAQ BETTING EXCHANGE 9.2 The Blue Brilliant

FIRST VIEW LOOKS THROWN IN

⭕ 6.00 Kempton Hidden horse! Saeed Bin Suroor, who is on four winners out of five, significantly sends First View to Kempton this evening, where he landed his first two starts.

The five-year-old then spent his time in Dubai, contending up to Listed level, until, gelded and working with recent winners, he is back racing in his own right here, off a mark 17lb lower than he was awarded for that Kempton double. BETDAQ 4.6.

⭕ 6.40 Cork Ireland’s record-breaking champion jockey, Colin Keane, rides Secret Road for his dad, Gerry, after a good run at the Curragh at the start of the month (short of room, kept on; 6f).

Secret Road, a big-field winner at Cork in September, has always been seen as a 7f animal, as his pedigree suggests.

BETDAQ value 6.2 Secret Road

What are points? Points facilitate a staking plan, which is the secret to creating profit. One point is whatever you choose: a pound, a euro, or whatever ….

Start with a bank and decide how much you can afford to lose over a period of time, and determine the size of your bets accordingly. Daqman makes this variation every day.
