CATAMARAN SAILS HOME AS THE DAY’S BEST: Daqman landed his nap and four possible winning bets yesterday across the cards at Leicester and Wetherby:

WON 5-1 BASSARABAD
2ND 5-2 LUNAR FLOW (same race; 15-1 forecast)
WON 11-10 CATAMARAN DU SEUIL (nap)
WON 2-9 OPTIMUS PRINCE (doubled with the nap)

SUPERNAP THAT RATES ANOTHER SUPERNAP: Here’s Daqman’s news wrap on racing to come, plus the pick of the action with four races from three meetings, featuring a supernap at Kempton tonight which plays up previous supernap winnings from the same horse!

GREAT YORKSHIRE GAMBLE

Serge Surge French Champion Hurdle winner L’Ami Serge schooled brilliantly over fences at Lambourn yesterday, prompting support with Ladbrokes and Corals down to 9-2 for Saturday’s big chase, the old Great Yorkshire, at Doncaster (3.15).

Good Cause Pleased to see Cause Of Causes target a handicap chase (2m 5f) at Leopardstown on February 4 during the Dublin Festival. A solid return will see him reinstated in Daqman’s Fortune Cookies.

He’s won NH Chase (44-1), Cross-Country and Kim Muir for this column in consecutive seasons at the Cheltenham Festival and was second in the 2017 Grand National at Aintree.

Dublin Festival The 13 races at Leopardstown on February 3 and 4, which include the Irish Gold Cup, Champion Hurdle and Arkle, have 301 left in at this stage, of which only a meagre 10 entries are from England.

Bristol May Bristol de Mai could be back this week, in the Cotswold Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The King George was only the second time in 22 starts that he’d been out of the frame. Connections want to prove that being dipped 6lb by the handicapper for that is all wrong.

Go Again Expect a small field or a possible turn-up (or both?) in the Limestone Lad Hurdle at Naas on Sunday, despite only nine declared.

Four of them, including appropriately On The Go Again, have been absent a total of 2,309 days. Which one among them is the ‘hidden horse’? Daqman investigates.

HI HO SILVA IN GREY FINISH

1.00 Lingfield John Gosden’s last 12 days of AW campaigning have produced these form figures for the yard: 231313232.

He has Briscola (4.2 BETDAQ offers) and Come With Me (11.5) in this race. Back both.

1.55 Catterick Major Ridge, 9.6 on BETDAQ this morning, was prepped at Wetherby (poor run) to win this race last year, and overnight has been the plunge horse for a repeat (16-1 to 8-1 with the bookies). His most recent run was a poor one. At Wetherby!

2.30 Catterick It’s the best race of the day; you gotta believe it! Beeno is hardly the word.

And Kenneth Slack’s eponymous summer hat-trick horse seems high in the handicap and off the boil.

The one-time 143 rated Zeroeshadesofgrey should do well these days around the 130 mark, and he certainly showed some of his old self at Wincanton on the last day.

There hasn’t been a penny for Irish raider Jimmy Breekie the last four starts and his yard is currently out of form at home.

The long-term bridesmaid Sakhee’s City (six seconds in 10 starts, still standing) has failed twice when stepped up to today’s trip.

Apterix is 16lb lower than his winning chase mark but hasn’t scored over hurdles since on an even lower rating in March, 2016. Always Resolute isn’t.

Dedigout has struggled for almost three years now, but Silva Eclipse (2.86 BETDAQ offered) hasn’t even been racing as long as that, and looks set for a winning handicap debut.

A hat-trick winner on the Flat, the grey scored on heavy over hurdles in September and has been runner-up to two previous winners since joining Sue Smith

Hopefully her grey is experienced enough to beat another grey, front-runner Zeroshadesofgrey, when the whips are out? (I had to get that one in).

HE’S THE KING OF COURAGE

7.15 Kempton When King Of Nepal came impressively back to form at Wolverhampton on Boxing Day, he landed this column an 11-4 supernap.

He’s up a grade tonight (2.64 on BETDAQ early mouse) with 4lb more to carry but arguably his best form is at Kempton; at least his best show of courage was.

He was only two but it was a big-field nursery and he was overhauled close home but got back up again on the post.
