DAQMAN LANDS HIS NAP BY 10 LENGTHS: Daqman landed his nap, Stag Horn (WON 13-8), a 10-lengths winner at Catterick yesterday, giving him seven best bets up from the last 16, including winners at 6-1 and 5-2, for a near-44% strike rate. It gave him a profit on the day.

RATINGS PLAN TO UNRAVEL FORM LINES: Are the big two-year-old winners as far clear of the rest as the hype would have it? Daqman finds some fascinating criss-cross form lines and he’s set himself the task of assessing them all for another report next week.

MUSSELBURGH NAP: Musselburgh, Lingfield and Bellewstown have survived the elements on Wednesday with DAQMAN’S NAP at Musselburgh. Chepstow is off today and Tipperary have cancelled Thursday’s card due to waterlogging. DAQMAN keeps the stakes low today but one winner should guarantee a profit on his staking plan.

ALOHA! A FEAST OF TWO-YEAR-OLDS

Reading between the form lines. As two-year-old form progresses, keep an eye out for youngsters who have been mixing with the rising stars and are hidden among the hype for them.

Collateral form is essential in looking for value among juveniles, as long as you add a plus sign for probable progress and a question mark over soft-ground results.

🏇 ALOHA STAR Beat Frenetic a head at the Curragh before that one stayed on there next time to land a verdict over Chief Little Hawk, subsequent winner of the valuable auction race at Naas on Sunday. Needs 6f.

Makes you appreciate Lucky Vega more. He won the Phoenix at the Curragh going away from Aloha Star and The Lir Jet.

🏇 MAGNANIMOUS Conversely, dropping back to 5f could help Joseph O’Brien’s colt by Mehmas.

The sire had two winners at York, including in the Gimcrack.

Magnanimous ran up to Monaasib at the Curragh before that one went down a short head to Chief Little Hawk at Naas.

🏇 TERESA MENDOZA Beat Monaasib at the Curragh in July as one of seven two-year-old winners for Ken Condon this year at a 35% strike rate.

They include the grey Sir Prancealot filly Miss Amulet, who beat Frenetic threeparts of a length at Naas before winning the Lowther gamely at York from Sacred.

🏇 SACRED was beaten less than a length by Prix Morny winner Campanelle in the Queen Mary, with the fifth filly home, Happy Romance, subsequently landing a £173,000 double, the Super Spring at Newbury with the big Sales race at York last week.

🏇 SHANDRA While all eyes will be on Aidan O’Brien’s runners in the Moyglare on Irish Champions weekend, Dermot Weld will have to make a big decision about recent Curragh scorer Shandra, whether the race will come too soon for her.

You want to get it right when you’re training a Sea The Stars filly owned and bred by the Aga Khan, who shares them out between Weld and Mick Halford, with Weld leading 17-3 for winners this year.

* Next week: Intriguing stuff, with lines to form both parallel and crossing. I’ll give my verdict next week on how the top two-year-olds have been rated plus previews on Irish champions weekend.

MILITIA TO STRIKE TARGET AGAIN

⭕ 3.30 Musselburgh 23 non runners on the Scottish card (at the time of writing) with the ground now officially soft (good to soft in places).

The ground won’t be a problem for the bang in form Militia who bids for a hat-trick and to also make it 3 from 3 over course and distance.

Hailing from Paul Midgley’s stable (5 winners from the last 23) Militia is up 4lb for his latest success at Chester and there could easily be another win to come from him over track and ground which he clearly enjoys. He made all to win over course, distance and ground last October and it would come as no surprise to see similar tactics deployed today.

This is competitive though. Glory Fighter has a similar profile to the selection. Coming into this on the back of a Chester win for which he is also up 4lb and is also on a hat-trick mission himself but the soft ground is a bigger question mark for him.

A bigger danger could come from Quanah who is a soft ground specialist and gets the plumb 14 draw. He was a beaten favourite though at Hamilton last time out and I just wonder whether he is in the grip of the handicapper.

MILLIE FOR HAT-TRICK

⭕ 4.05 Musselburgh Millie The Minx is another horse on the roll and she bids for a hat-trick here.

She’s up 6lb for her latest win at Hamilton but scored with plenty in hand and might be able to take advantage of what could still be a good mark. I say good mark because the blinkers were fitted for the first time two starts ago and in her case they seem to have improved her significantly.

Form before blinkers: 06580/30446-343
Form since blinkers: 11

Cumbrian trainer Dianne Sayer had a nice weekend winner with Beeno winning again at Cartmel and ‘Millie’ should be too strong for Peerless Percy who was third at Hamilton on his handicap debut and should improve for the step up in trip but Michael Dods isn’t firing on all cylinders at present.

GOOD WORD FOR AUTHOR

⭕ 5.30 Lingfield Author’s Dream should find this easier than the task he faced at Goodwood last time out when a close up fifth to Just Hubert. He only dropped back to fifth close home and the handicapper hasn’t been fooled as he as put him up 2lb!

But it shows his current well being, although he will be nothing like the 50/1 he was at Goodwood, especially given that likely warm favourite Pleasure Garden is now a non runner.

Author’s Dream has done the bulk of his running on the all-weather but his turf form is solid enough – including a 33/1 win at Sandown in June.
