SEASIDE FESTIVAL TODAY: Two solid-looking cards today but mainly populated by fillies as Yarmouth celebrates its two-day Eastern Festival and Sandown gets the nap in a Listed.

AYR GOLD CUP SATURDAY: Look out for the Ayr Gold Cup and the Autumn Cup at Newbury. Two big Saturday handicaps that get the Daqman preview treatment before the big day.

HOW CAN WE RESIST HER..

⭕ 2.30 Yarmouth Today is the Eastern Festival at the track known as Newmarket-by-the-Sea but a southern squad of Ralph Beckett, Henry Candy, Clive Cox and Charles Hills dare to go the extra mile to foil the natives on the card today, while the fillies’ Listed later on appeals to Karl Burke and David O’Meara, men from the moors not from the broads.

The recent winners of this 2yo novice has had an SP varying from 5-4 to 80-1 but I am intrigued by Mamma Maria.

Here I go again but I note that her trainer, William Haggas, won this three years out of four in 2017, 2018 and 2020.

And this Dubawi grey seemed clearly intended to comply with the routine of three runs and then a handicap mark after two class-2 7f races at Sandown and on the July Course in August.

But she is such a keen-going sort that she appealed to Tom Marquand as one to drop back to 6f against the usual bunch of class-4 novices to be found in a race like this.

Ralph Beckett’s Dash Of Azure is a worry because, though an unruly sort, was runner-up on the July Course to subsequent May Hill winner, Desert Flower. ‘Dash’ is also given the green light today by putting on a hood.

Betdaq Betting Exchange value: 6.8 Dash of Azure, 11.5 Mamma Maria

SKELLET IS BETTER CLASS

⭕ 3.23 Sandown An open Listed (even geldings allowed!) but not so open if Skellet (the only three-year-old in the field) runs as well as she usually does at BETDAQ 5.4.

Beaten only a neck in the Oh So Sharp Stakes in October, she has remained competitive at around a mile this season, while the winner of that 2yo trial, Dance Sequence, has finished runner–up in the Epsom Oaks.

Good Group-1 efforts by Skellet in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot look well ahead of her rivals here, though Elnjamm might bounce back from a disappointing run at York and Cash is better than the bare form.

BOBA TO BOUNCE BACK

⭕ 3.30 Yarmouth This fillies’ Listed has been shared out in the decade between John Gosden and Roger Varian (three each, five of them 3yo).

Three-year-olds are going for a four-timer today (it would be six out of seven overall) but they will have to get past another Ralph Beckett, Lady Boba.

Lady Boba has already won a Listed and been placed twice in Group races. She was stone last in the Nassau Stakes but can bounce back in this company.

Regal Jubilee was runner-up at Goodwood in the Height Of Fashion trial for the Oaks over today’s trip when hampered two out.

Betdaq Betting Exchange 7.4 Lady Boba, 14 Regal Jubilee

FLEURIR CAN FLOURISH

⭕ 3.55 Sandown More fillies. Another race with a big bias to three-year-olds, who bid for a four-timer in this one-mile handicap.

The grey Own Accord got herself a decent handicap mark and won off it but has since failed in three attempts to improve on the rating.

Cheveley Park will be hoping she can do it today in first-time cheekpieces, so that they can line her up in a weak Listed.

Windcrack got off the mark here at Sandown at the end of August, so she could have a similar target.

Roger Varian saddles four at Yarmouth or will he be here to send Fleurir on her way in this one? She is by sire of the moment, Justify, and is the ideal type for the finish up the final hill.

BETDAQ value 4 Windcrack, 5.8 Fleurir

PLAY UP ON OVERTURE

⭕ 4.40 Yarmouth Everyone plays follow my leader when Sir Mark Prescott plots the route of another sequence horse.

In fact, Overture returns to the scene of her first success after completing a hat-trick at Southwell which has hoisted her a total of 21lb in the ratings to her second successive rise in class.

Three-year-olds are six out of 10 in this fillies’-only handicap and she is well drawn in stall 3. Gates 1, 2, 3 have won seven years out of 10. BETDAQ 4.5 taken.
