2 Two English-trained horses have won since 1994

3 winners have been ridden by Seamie Heffernan

4 of the last 15 winners had won a Group 1 race

5 odds-on favourites have won in the last 10 years

6 6-1 (twice) are the longest-priced winners for nine years

7 of the last 15 winners have been placed in the Epsom Derby

8 of the last 10 winners were rated 114 or higher

9 of the last 10 winners were by Irish sires

10 of the last 13 winners were drawn in stalls 1 to 5

11 of the last 15 winners ran in the Epsom Derby

12 of the last 22 winners have been trained by Aidan O’Brien

13 of the last 15 winners had won a Group race

47 commentaries on the race will be logged up by Des Scahill when he retires on Saturday. He hasn’t missed a year on radio or television since 1971.

Wouldn’t we all wish to go back to the great day when Dessie called home Dawn Run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup. He helped make the moment momentous.

855,000 euros is the value to the winner on Saturday.

FORT GABRIEL HOLDS HIS FORM

3.20 Worcester Just as the bookies slash Harry Skelton’s price for the Jumps jockeys’ title, his winners feed from brother Dan seems to have dried up, temporarily I’m sure.

Dan and Harry are missing strike badly with, together, six consecutive favourites beaten from their last seven starters.

So it is that I’m opposing their Cabaret Queen in her first handicap and only her second chase in all.

When last week’s winner, Fort Gabriel (BETDAQ 3.75), got off the mark at this time last year, he was setting up a hat-trick, and is 3lb well in here, ahead of a revised handicap mark.

Jonjo O’Neill won this race last year, but Forthefunofit seems to need soft ground to put his best hoof forward.

3.30 Carlisle Bell The usual suspects win this – Richard Fahey, Mark Johnston, Tim Easterby – yet it’s a poor race for favourites, usually going to long-odds outsiders (five out of nine double-figure SPs up to 25-1).

The first-time vizor may be the answer to Mon Beau Visage (BETDAQ 11.0) for David O’Meara, with Danny Tudhope on 50 winners this year.

3.40 Salisbury Five of the nine runners are three-year-olds but Marcus Tregoning is the only trainer to get one of that age group first past the post in this: Storm Ahead two years ago.

Power Of Darkness, lightly raced, lightly weighted, could do the Tregoning trick again today (3.9 ON BETDAQ) after storming into form on the last day.

TISSIAK A BIG 9.0 FOR OAKS TRIAL

7.00 Naas Oaks Trial Aidan O’Brien (three winners at 7-1 twice and 8-1) and Dermot Weld have shared this since 2012, but have strong opposition today from Ger Lyons, Jim Bolger and Willie McCreery.

Mary Tudor (McCreery) won a Listed at Navan on the soft. The third filly home went on to be placed in stronger Listeds but seems to peg Mary Tudor to this level, particularly as she disappointed in a Group 3 (good ground) on the last day.

She gets her 104 rating from being placed in a Group race as a two-year-old.

Espere (Lyons), hooded and reluctant to load, beat only an 84 rated at Gowran Park on the last day.

Scriobh Nua (Bolger) quickened smartly to win a big-field maiden at Leopardstown after being outclassed in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She’s on 95.

Romiyna (Weld) has had only the one run, one win, but her sire, Nathaniel, made rapid progress at this time in his career.

What to make of Aidan O’Brien’s runners? Sizzling, third in the Munster Oaks, and fourth in Mary Tudor’s Navan Listed (O’Brien stablemate Easter Lily in rear), looks well exposed and just a maiden win (on soft) is always a bad sign.

I’m a bit worried that Romiyna needs more experience so I’m going with Tissiak (Joseph O’Brien) as my No 1.

Tissiak beat well-regarded daughters of Sea The Stars, High Chaparral and Galileo, eased down, over today’s CD in her Curragh maiden on similar good-to-firm ground.

Tissiak earlier ran second to Ribblesdale fourth, Athena (Aidan O’Brien), who would have been favourite for this race but has been withdrawn. Tissiak was big at 9.0 on BETDAQ this morning.
