STAKING TO IMPROVE YOUR WINNINGS: You need a staking plan to register two things with your racing: confidence in your bet and quality control. STREETS AHEAD: DAQMAN maintained his profitable week when Walton Street WON at 15/8 yesterday to give followers a 5.9 profit on the day backing up the 4.5 profit on Monday when the nap Big Tour WON at 5/4.
MORE OF THE SAME: DAQMAN deploys the same staking strategy on Wednesday of backing three horses to win 20 points on BETDAQ.
SYSTEM BETTING THE DAQMAN WAY
I don’t punish Pricewise enough. He should be taught several rules of betting which might, at least, put him on an even keel, instead of running 200-odd points behind me.
He goes largely for outsiders, yet rarely stakes for both win and place, as if he doesn’t realise that a 20-1 place is a 4-1 or 5-1 winner, depending on the number of runners (less the win unit if its second or third, maybe fourth).
And he is at least 17 years behind the times in ignoring laying a horse to lose, so betraying his very existence as a bookie’s moll.
I won’t charge winning lays to the account in my challenge to Pricewise while he is too feeble to respond, but I shall start them up again at the Newmarket July Meeting. In fact, I plan to extend the whole Daqman range. This is how it will look:
BANKER STRENGTH 30 and 40 point gold and diamond bankers
VALUE STRENGTH Ton-up (t o win 100 points) and bull’s-eye (50 points) bets on the longer-odds value bets
DOUBLE VALUE I shall price up the value races and, if I can get, say, 20-1 about a 10-1 chance, I shall back it with the stake required to win the 50 or 100 at 10-1, so doubling the value.
DAILY STRENGTH On a day’s racing at class A, B and C tracks, I shall stake to win 30 points. At D tracks and lower, where the races are class 4, 5 and 6, I shall stake to win 20 points. Bankers will be 20 points to win in each case.
SELECTIONS ONLY I shall be more selective about the picks that are worth staking. Other tips will be listed as selections.
LAYS Alongside the selections may be lays for the race in question.
GROUNDS FOR CONCERN
Predicting horses is one thing, predicting the weather is quite another.
The ground went against the nap yesterday at Pontefract but the advice was …. correct at the time of going to press.
It’s the really localised rain which may, or may not, arrive that’s so hard to take into account and as I’ve said on countless occasions there is no bigger factor than the ground.
Just take today’s offerings. It’s firm at Bath, good to soft at Catterick, good to soft this afternoon at both Lingfield and Yarmouth and of course we can always rely on Kempton being standard…… except it’s not, it’s standard to slow!!
I wonder which racecourse will be the first to do a ‘Wimbledon’ and stick a roof on !!
ASSSESSING BEST BET AT YARMOUTH
4.20 Yarmouth Interesting to see Unit Of Assessment here. I mentioned him in Monday’s column but he was a non runner at Windsor but now gets the give in the ground here at Yarmouth.
He didn’t show much in better class races at Newmarket and Newbury but was an eye-catching runner-up to Contango at Leicester last time out when not unfancied in the market – nibbled at 25/1 and backed down to 16/1. That was over today’s trip and today’s ground and he might well be able to go one better in this company.
Working Class looks the danger, although the Peter Chapple-Hyam trained runner was a well beaten third at Salisbury last time out when racing over a longer trip. The drop back in distance should help.
Cool Team has been placed in all four of his starts but was a disappointment when odds-on at Goodwood last time out and is unproven on softer ground.
7.25 Kempton Jane Rose made an encouraging debut at Doncaster when fourth to Eirene on soft ground and the Richard Hannon trained runner should be more at home on the all-weather surface here.
She is given the vote ahead of Downtown Mombasa who finished third in a bunch finish at Windsor on debut but gave the distinct impression that day that she will need a longer trip to show her best.
8.55 Kempton Hackney Road escapes a penalty for a win last week in an apprentice contest and should be able to go in again.
This lightly raced sort has won three of her five starts and two of those have come over course and distance.
Madame Bounty goes in search of the hat-trick but is unproven on the all-weather and takes a big step up in class.
