71-1 DOUBLE AND DAQMAN SUPERNAP: Daqman tips one horse for each English Flat turf meeting today, two at 8.0 and 9.0, but mixes his multiples with shorter prices, including a supernap, for Daq doubles and trebles.

SUNDAY FOCUS ON TWO-YEAR-OLDS: Daqman also looks ahead to the big two-year-old races on Sunday at the Curragh and Sunday week at Deauville. Are they in flight from the Ballydoyle mob? These two races could decide the 2019 Guineas favourite until the Newmarket and Longchamp tests later in the autumn.

O’BRIEN HOGGING THE PHOENIX GRID

What to do if you are a bit short on Group 1s? We’ve been this way before but, even by Ballydoyle’s standards, and granted their low Group-1 strike rate this year, their smothering of the Phoenix Stakes with blanket entries is remarkable.

Aidan O’Brien has TEN of the 14 declared for Sunday at the Curragh for a race he’s won for the last four years and SIXTEEN times altogether, EIGHT times in the decade.

But the Phoenix does not always feature success in the future for his winners. Two of the last three have been a disaster.

As a three-year-old, Air Force Blue (the 2015 winner) flopped in the English and Irish Guineas and again when dropped back in trip for the July Cup.

Last year’s winner, Sioux Nation, has won only a minor Group 3 from six starts since.

The inference is that O’Brien wins this at all costs with a precocious animal, which you should then forget all about.

In the Phoenix all-aged sprint, also on Sunday, O’Brien only has seven left in (bringing his total left in on the day to 24)!

He clearly needs another Group 1 very soon to pay for the petrol and air fares.

Ironically, it’s because of a lack of flights to Ireland on Sunday that O’Brien’s principal Phoenix Stakes opponent, English-trained Advertise, may wait another week until the Prix Morny in Deauville, particularly now that Calyx is said to be a doubtful runner there.

PENDO PLOT TO PAY OFF AT BRIGHTON

3.10 Brighton Mile Lord Clenaghcastle and Pendo were first and second last year, with Pendo now better off at the weights and, according to his stable, ‘aimed at this all year.’

Pendo has certainly done nothing much since the race last summer, and has dropped 5lb in the weights.

A hidden horse who has remained that way in the morning BETDAQ market at 9.0!

3.50 Pontefract William Haggas’ tremendous run continues (last four races 1101) but is Reverend Jacobs’ going back to the well too quickly after having to fight for victory at Newmarket only five days ago?

Star Of The East and Tor didn’t beat much when they returned to form. Both are back up in the weights and well exposed. Grandee has been struggling and Bolder Bob needs rain.

So I shall go for Mukhayyam (8.0 on BETDAQ early mouse), who’s been competing in better class and likes to bowl along. They could give him an easy lead.

4.00 Chepstow Poet’s Prince seems almost certain to ‘do a Johnston’ and take these on from the front.

He made all in a class 2 in the Spring and is down in grade here in a small field. His successes have come when his oppoments have numbered only three, six, seven and eight.

Come On Come On has won only a class-5 novice, and Victory Chime’s success from the front at Goodwood in the Spring was also class 5, with those behind him having since dropped to an even lower level.

5.50 Yarmouth Frankie Dettori puts his feet up all afternoon but takes a late trip to Yarmouth for one ride, the improving Machell Place in this, only a fraction short of evens this morning.
