Dynaste justified late support that made him go off favourite for the Ryanair Chase and bring him back to the limelight after a couple of below par efforts.

The David Pipe trained gelding appeared to hold all before him this time last year but hasn’t shown the same level of form for quite some time.

Paul Nicholls’s Kauto Stone led from early doors along with the long time early favourite Benefficient.

There was very little change in the order until going over the water fence when the pace began to quicken slightly and Medermit was the first one that began to feel the pinch. As they approached four out, Menorah began to lose his place and so did the long time leader, Kauto Stone as Andrew McNamara sent Hidden Cyclone to the front.

Running down the hill, McNamara kept turning the screw on the Shark Hanlon trained gelding and turning for home, he still looked like he was holding the strongest chance as he was being chased by Rajdhani Express.

Over the second last and McNamara got to work on Hidden Cyclone and was still a couple of lengths in front at the last as Tom Scudamore made his move down the centre of the track. Once the pair got on an even keel once again, Scudamore pushed the button and the race was over as they sprinted clear to win by two and a half lengths from Hidden Cyclone who was a gallant runner up.

Rajdhani Express and Hunt Ball ran fantastic races for the Henderson team in third and fourth while the well fancied Al Ferof could only manage fifth.

Afterward, jockey Tom Scudamore said of Dynaste; ‘’Everyone has their off days, he’s only had one. I’m delighted for him. He’s a very good horse. This is what it’s all about; to perform on the biggest stage.’’

A delighted David Pipe echoed the sentiments of his stable jockey by saying; ‘’This where you want to win; this is what counts. He’ll probably get three miles plus now. The more we switch him off, the further he’ll get but he’s stuffy and takes some getting fit. He’d been working nicely of lat and we were confident but a little cautious as well.’’

Shark Hanlon, trainer of Hidden Cyclone, who has finished second in his last three runs behind Benefficient, Sire De Grugy and now Dynaste, commented; ‘’Hidden Cyclone has run well. We’re disappointed, but it’s a great run. We’ve been beaten by some good one this season.’’
