FA CUP TUESDAY: We preview Tuesday’s FA Cup 4th Round replays between NEWPORT COUNTY v MIDDLESBROUGH and WOLVERHAMPTON v SHREWSBURY with extended stats and BETDAQ recommended bets.

NEWPORT COUNTY V MIDDLESBROUGH

7.45pm We have the FA Cup Fourth Round replays starting on Tuesday and Newport County v Middlesbrough is live on BT Sport. Middlesbrough won’t know what’s hit them playing away from home in the FA Cup! This is actually their first away game in the competition since 2015 as they’ve played their last nine FA Cup games at home – funny how random draws throw up stats like that from time to time.

Middlesbrough have an excellent record in the FA Cup against sides from a lower division and they are a shade of odds on here with the match odds at the time of writing currently trading; Newport County 4.7, Middlesbrough 1.95 and the draw is 3.5. One has to wonder will we see a full strength Middlesbrough side here with them battling hard for promotion in the Championship and the winner of this tie having to play Manchester City in the next round – you can’t be negative in football but surely neither side has a hope against Pep Guardiola’s men. We might see some big swings in the match odds here after seeing the teams however we feel that the value is with the Middlesbrough lay here at 1.95. Newport are bound to be more up for this tie being on TV and in front of their home fans and perhaps Middlesbrough will be more focused on the Championship rather than battling hard away from home only to play Man City – we like the away lay.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay Middlesbrough at 1.95.

MATCH STATS

  • Newport County are winless in their three previous meetings with Middlesbrough in all competitions (D1 L2), losing their only such home meeting 0-1 in November 1986.
  • This will be Middlesbrough’s first away game in the FA Cup since a 0-2 loss at Arsenal in February 2015, ending a run of nine consecutive games at the Riverside in the competition.
  • Middlesbrough have progressed from 22 of their last 24 FA Cup ties against sides from a lower division.
  • Newport County are looking to reach the FA Cup fifth round for only the second time (also 1948-49). They’ve lost just one of their last six home FA Cup games against sides from the top two tiers (W3 D2).
  • Middlesbrough had 19 shots against Newport in the first meeting, with Lewis Wing having a hand in 10 of them (5 shots, 5 chances created).

WOLVERHAMPTON V SHREWSBURY

7.45pm Wolves are playing some excellent football at the moment and they should have no problem getting the job done against Shrewsbury in front of their own fans. Hopefully we see another cracker after the teams finished 2-2 – Wolves have been banging in the goals for fun lately so we can expect to see some action. The markets are expecting an easy home win with Wolves trading as short at 1.23 at the time of writing.

Wolves have netted 12 goals in their last four games and they’ve been spread out too – they’ve score three, three, two and four so they are in super form in front of goal. Shrewsbury have taken five Premier League sides to a replay in the past in the FA Cup however they have lost every time and now that Wolves are back in front of their home fans we expect an easy win. Wolves are trading 2.14 -2 goals on the Asian Handicap (stakes void if they win by exactly two) and that looks good value considering the goal scoring form that Wolves are in.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Wolverhampton -2 goals Asian Handicap to beat Shrewsbury at 2.14.
