PREVIEW
Germany’s last European triumph came in 1996 and after their efforts at the 2008 tournament and then the World Cup, Joachim Low’s side are tipped by many to land the trophy this time around. The Germans have a tough first game though as they meet Portugal in the opening Group B.

Low’s side won all ten of their qualifying matches and are the second highest ranked team in the tournament behind Spain. However, their recent form in friendlies hasn’t been too impressive, losing two of their last three and only winning four of their last 12 friendlies. Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose look set to lead the line as they hope to continue their form that saw them average 3.4 goals per game in qualifying.

Portugal will need to improve as a squad as their recent form has been very disappointing. The Portuguese have only won one of their last six and have only scored one goal in their last three games against Turkey, Poland and Macedonia respectively. Cristiano Ronaldo will be the main threat and he scored seven times in qualifying.

Portugal have only beaten Germany once in their last seven encounters, and that was back in Euro 2000 when both teams had already progressed and the game carried little importance. I expect this record to continue and Germany to start with a victory. Punters can back the Germans at around 2.19 on BETDAQ.
