PREVIEW

Sunday’s big game sees a meeting between two sides that most neutrals will be happy to see at the right end of the table.

Newcastle’s unbeaten start means that their last loss in any competition was back on May 1 against Liverpool. It has taken them all the way up to fourth spot and allowed the St James’ Park faithful to indulge in a bit of optimism for the first in a while. Tottenham are three points behind and in fine nick after heavy defeats to the Manchester clubs at the start of the season, which have all but been forgotten now.

Spurs go in to the match as favourites after four Prem wins on the spin at around 2.46 on BETDAQ, but they last won on Tyneside in the league in August 2004 and have suffered reverses in four of five Prem visits since. The Geordies don’t look a terrible bet at all in their current form, at around 3.0, but the draw is the most tempting option at the 3.35 mark.

I expect both teams to go for it, so we should be in for an entertaining encounter, but neither Alan Pardew nor Harry Redknapp would view the stalemate as a bad result. A repeat of last season’s 1-1 scoreline tempts at around 6.8.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Newcastle 1-1 Tottenham at around 7.4: 3 points
Saturday’s Return: +11.50
