Stuart Pearce attributed Team GB’s disappointing performance in the opener against Senegal to the players struggling with the sheer magnitude of the Games. Whatever the reason, the side desperately needs three points later today before taking on the best side in the group, Uruguay, in the final fixture.

Team GB started brightly enough on Thursday and took the lead through Craig Bellamy before reverting to type and not taking care of the ball which let a vigorous Senegal back into the contest. Similarly U.A.E got off to a flier in their opener to the surprise of most who figured that the Middle Eastern country would be nothing more than the whipping boys of the group.

There’s one thing for certain and that’s Team GB cannot underestimate their next opponents otherwise they could find themselves in a near impossible position of reaching the next stage. A worrying concern will be the lack of goalscoring opportunities Pearce’s side created last time out and with the warm-up against Brazil they have had just one shot on target from ten efforts.

Daniel Sturridge looked as if he’s still recovering from his recent bout of illness, but there was plenty to take from a typically lively Bellamy. Even though U.A.E showed plenty going forward they looked vulnerable defensively and Team GB can take advantage of the space to get their quest for gold back up and running.
