PREVIEW
Aston Villa have been threatening a big result over the past month and their hard work paid off in their encouraging 3-1 victory at Anfield last Saturday. Paul Lambert’s switch to Villa Park promised a bright future, yet it’s taken until November for his young side to find their feet.
Villa have now won their previous two fixtures in all competitions, the last of which came eight days ago.
Chelsea would have loved a similar break, but have not had the luxury with the Club World Cup in Japan and midweek cup win over Leeds – an eighth game in Rafa Benitez’s 25 day tenure.
The Blues’ recent home league form makes for depressing reading which has seen them fail to win their previous four matches, a run that includes three successive draws.
Further positives for Villa are that they have a decent record in West London. They took all three points on their visit last season in a convincing 3-1 win and the year before finished in a memorable 3-3 draw.
