Today’s North London derby at White Hart Lane could turn out to be the final confirmation that Tottenham really have got the upper hand over Arsenal in that part of town.
A Spurs win would see them go seven points clear of their biggest rivals and ensure the pressure on Arsene Wenger reaches new highs. Having been dumped out of the FA Cup and League Cup to lower division sides and being on the brink of a Champions League exit, Wenger’s men now find themselves in a real battle to make the top four.
His counterpart at Tottenham, Andre Villas-Boas, has no such worries having just been named Manager of the Month after leading his side to a 100% February and through to the last-16 of the Europa League.
Gareth Bale has been in scintillating form, hitting three braces in his last four matches, and has 19 goals for the season in all competitions now. He’s showed with late winners against Newcastle, Lyon and West Ham in recent games that he is a true match winner.
The Welshman’s form will strike fear into an Arsenal side that have looked nervy and devoid of confidence for most of the season. The visitors haven’t won at White Hart Lane in the league since 2007 and, the way they have been playing this term, it’s hard to see that changing later.
