PREVIEW

Rangers will have been disappointed that they managed to blow a 1-0 lead against NK Maribor last week, as Etien Velikonja snatched an injury time winner. Ally McCoist’s side dominated the first leg in Slovenia and with an away goal are still in a strong position to qualify for the Europa League.

The Gers were back to their best at the weekend as they hammered Motherwell 3-0 at Fir Park. The three points lifted them above their fierce Glasgow rivals and the side into first place. Another bonus for McCoist is that he can call upon the likes of Lee McCulloch, Maurice Edu and Carlos Bocanegra for the second leg.

It’s almost a month ago that Rangers lost 1-0 to Malmo at Ibrox, which ultimately gave them too much to do over in Sweden. Interestingly, this will be the first time that Gers have played in front of their own fans since that disappointing defeat and the side will be looking for a much improved performance.

Maribor showed in the first leg that they are a strong side, but they have struggled on their travels in Europe. The visitors are packed with young Slovenians and many will not have had to deal with the raucous atmosphere inside Ibrox. Maribor do know what it takes to win in Scotland as they beat Hibernian in the same competition last season.

Rangers must win tonight and therefore will attack from the off. They look to be finding form at the right time and with home advantage it’s hard to back against the hosts winning this leg.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)
