Panathinaikos v Odense BK
Champions League qualifier
KO 7.45pm

HEAD-TO-HEAD

(Max last 10 only)
27 July 2011 Champions League qualifier Odense BK 1-1 Panathinaikos

PREVIEW

Tore Reginiussen’s 90th minute equaliser earned Odense a late draw in the first leg of this qualifier, but Panathinaikos will feel they have the upper hand with the vital away goal. The Greek side have midfielder Sebastian Leto to thank after he gave the visitors a lead shortly after the break in Denmark.

Odense have since been back in action in the Danish Superliga, but could only manage a 2-2 draw which leaves the club third in the table after three fixtures. Manager Henrik Clausen will be pleased with his side’s efforts, but knows they face an uphill challenge to remain in Europe this evening,

In contrast, Panathinaikos have not yet started their season and will therefore be a little short of competitive match fitness. The Greek side struggled in last year’s Champions League and only managed to avoid defeat twice against Rubin Kazan. They struggled against the better sides in the competition and were hammered by Barcelona and lost to Danish club Copenhagen.

Buoyed by an away goal and being back on Greek soil, I feel Panathinaikos are in an excellent position to qualify for the next stage. The visitors will need to push for that elusive away goal and that will leave spaces at the back to take advantage of as the game develops. At around 1.66 on the ‘Daq’ I’m happy to back a home win here.

RECOMMENDATION: (1-10 points)

Back Panathinaikos at around 1.66: 5 points
