It can be hard to find value in tennis in the early rounds of Grand Slams, with so many heavy favourites, but Samantha Stosur looks well over-priced today to see off Sabine Lisicki in their third round match today.
The 29-year-old former US Open champion has played her German rival four times before and has won three of those, including both previous meetings on grass. The Australian has also been really impressive in both her matches in SW19 so far, seeing off both Anna Schmiedlová and Olga Puchkova in straight sets.
Her Wimbledon record is poor, never advancing past the third round in ten previous years, but she has been unlucky to bump into some of the world’s top players in that time and it would be wrong to say she struggles on grass.
Lisicki made her breakthrough here two years ago when she reached the last four here and knows Stosur’s game well as they have teamed up for success in doubles before. She has also been in dominant form, losing just seven games in the opening rounds but it seems strange to see such a big discrepancy in price between the 23rd seed at around 1.59 on BETDAQ and the higher-rated Stosur (14th seed) at 2.54.
That makes Stosur a good value bet to better her previous best here at Wimbledon and make the fourth round.
