PREVIEW
Nigeria top Group B in the Confederations Cup by virtue of their 6-1 win over minnows Tahiti, but despite a comprehensive scoreline they were actually really poor for large parts of the game against the part-timers and never looking like banging in the 10+ goals that many had predicted. They are now unbeaten in their last six but narrow victories over Burkina Faso and Kenya, as well a draw with Namibia, is hardly good form.

They face Uruguay for the first time in history late tonight and will have to up their game considerably to upset the South Americans, who were fourth at the last World Cup. The Sky Blues haven’t been in great form in World Cup qualifying and were completely outplayed by Spain in the first game of this tournament.

That said, there’s little shame in being beaten 2-1 by the reigning world and European champions and they have dangerous players in the shape of Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani. They had won their previous two matches against Venezuela and France too without conceding.

The African team seem to be missing fluency on the pitch amid rumours of disunity off it and it would be disappointing if Uruguay didn’t live up to their favourites tag at around 1.82 on BETDAQ.
