After Real Madrid’s exit from the Champions League was confirmed last night, it’s up to Barcelona to restore some Spanish pride when they face the unenviable task of overturning a 4-0 first leg defeat to tournament favourites Bayern Munich later.
Munich were quite simply superb last week in running riot and look nailed on to reach their third final in four years. They made a team widely regarded as one of the best ever look distinctly average and it’s little surprise to see the layers taking no chances. The home side will take comfort from the fact the last time the sides met at the Nou Camp it finished 4-0 to the Catalans. Yet that was Barcelona’s only win in seven competitive meetings with Munich and they have suffered four reverses in that time.
The Munich midfield didn’t let the likes of Xavi and Andres Iniesta control the play last week and as a result Lionel Messi was practically anonymous. With concerns over his fitness and the fact Barca have won just one of their last six games in this season’s competition and remarkably only triumphed in one of their last seven knockout games in the Champions League, they look opposable.
The visitors have not conceded a goal in their last three ties and did the double over Juventus in the last round. They can complete another double tonight and are worth backing at 4.2 on BETDAQ.
