PREMIER LEAGUE: We preview Saturday’s Premier League games with extended stats and a recommended BETDAQ bet starting with Cardiff v Brighton at 12.30pm.

CARDIFF V BRIGHTON

12.30pm This might not be the most exciting fixture to start the Premier League this weekend; however it’s a very interesting clash nonetheless. After Huddersfield beat Fulham on Monday night, Cardiff are one of five teams at the bottom of the table with only two points between them. If they won’t to stay in the Premier League, they really have to get points from fixtures like this one. Brighton are very poor away from home too; they’ve only won once in their last 19 Premier League away games. Based on what we’ve seen from Cardiff in the Premier League this season they will obviously struggle to stay up – however they have shown signs that they can certainly battle hard and score goals at home and we cannot get away from Brighton’s away record here – we’re happy to back Cardiff at 2.66 which looks a shade of value.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Cardiff to beat Brighton at 2.66.

MATCH STATS

  • Cardiff and Brighton have never faced before in the top-flight of English football, making this the fourth new top-flight fixture this season (Bournemouth vs Cardiff, Brighton vs Fulham and Bournemouth vs Fulham the others).
  • Brighton have lost only one of their last 11 league matches against Cardiff (W3 D7), a 1-4 defeat in February 2016 at Cardiff City Stadium in the Championship.
  • Cardiff vs Brighton will become the 100th different fixture to have been played in all four divisions of the English Football League.
  • Cardiff are without a clean sheet in their last eight Premier League games, shipping 22 goals in total and losing seven of those matches (W1).
  • Brighton have won just one of their last 19 Premier League matches away from home (D5 L13), with that victory coming against Newcastle last month.
  • 33% of Brighton’s Premier League away victories have been in Wales (1/3 – 1-0 vs Swansea in November 2017).
  • No side has conceded the first goal of a Premier League game more often than Cardiff this season (8, level with Fulham).
  • Brighton’s Glenn Murray has scored in just one of his previous seven league matches against Cardiff – however, he did bag in a hat-trick against them, netting all three in a 3-2 victory for Crystal Palace in September 2012.
  • Only Eden Hazard, Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (7 each) have scored more Premier League goals than Brighton’s Glenn Murray this season (6).
  • In five previous managerial league meetings between Brighton boss Chris Hughton and Cardiff manager Neil Warnock, the Irishman has won four and drawn the other, keeping clean sheets in all five matches.

HUDDERSFIELD V WEST HAM

3pm Huddersfield managed to score their first home goal of the season on Monday night against Fulham and they grinded out a nice 1-0 win. They still sit in the bottom three, however that was a massive win for them because if they lost they would have been adrift at the bottom of the table. That win on Monday night ended a run of 14 games in the Premier League without a win and looking at Fulham’s record at the back – we shouldn’t read too much into that game until we see improved football from Huddersfield. West Ham have had a very up and down season; and we feel that despite Huddersfield’s struggles they look too short here at 2.36. They have kept just one clean sheet in their last 14 away Premier League games and perhaps Huddersfield can score again in front of their home fans! From a value point of view we have to lay West Ham at 2.36 – we expect a closer game than those odds suggest.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Lay West Ham at 2.36.

MATCH STATS

  • Huddersfield lost both of their Premier League meetings with West Ham last season – the Terriers were the only side the Hammers beat twice during 2017-18.
  • West Ham’s 4-1 away Premier League win at Huddersfield last season was only their fourth away victory in all competitions against the Terriers, and their first since January 1969 in an FA Cup match.
  • Five of West Ham’s six Premier League goals against Huddersfield have been scored in the second half of games.
  • Huddersfield’s victory against Fulham last time out ended a run of 14 consecutive Premier League games without a win. They last won back-to-back games in the competition in February.
  • Huddersfield haven’t scored more than once in any of their last 21 Premier League games, netting just eight goals in total in that run.
  • West Ham are looking to secure back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since January 2017.
  • West Ham have kept just one clean sheet in their last 14 Premier League away games, a 2-0 win at Leicester in May.
  • Huddersfield have scored a league-high 80% of their Premier League goals in the first half of games this season (4/5).
  • No Huddersfield player has scored at home in the Premier League since April (Tom Ince vs Watford), with their winner against Fulham last time out coming by virtue of an own goal.
  • Since the start of last season, Marko Arnautovic has been directly involved in 23 of West Ham’s 61 Premier League goals (16 goals, 7 assists) – more than twice as many as any other player at the club.

LEICESTER V BURNLEY

3pm It was great to see Leicester grind out a tough away win last weekend in their first game back after their owner sadly lost his life. They showed great spirit both during the game and after – and they look like a side very together and united. This is their first home match since the helicopter crash and emotions are bound to be running high. We expect them to get their heads down and battle hard again just like last week and they have a great opportunity to win again here against the struggling Burnley. They only have eight points from 11 games this season and they have conceded 25 goals in their 11 games – including 13 in their last three. We expect Leicester to find a way through this Burnley defence as more teams are doing and we’re happy to back the home side.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Leicester to beat Burnley at 1.54.

MATCH STATS

  • Leicester City are unbeaten in seven home league matches against Burnley (W4 D3) since losing 0-1 in November 2007 in the Championship.
  • Burnley are looking to record consecutive league wins against Leicester for the first time since August 2006; in the top-flight, they haven’t achieved this feat since December 1968.
  • Leicester are the only side to have scored in all 11 of their Premier League games so far this season. It’s only the second time the Foxes have managed to score in each of their opening 11 games to a Premier League season, after 2015-16 when they ended as champions.
  • Leicester have conceded the first goal in each of their last four Premier League home games, winning one, drawing one and losing two.
  • Burnley have lost each of their last three Premier League games, by an aggregate score of 2-13.
  • Burnley have conceded 25 goals in their 11 Premier League games this season – they’d conceded just nine in their first 11 last season, taking them 28 games to concede 25.
  • Burnley have conceded at least four goals in each of their last three Premier League games. The last team to concede as many in four consecutive top-flight games were Arsenal in December 1959.
  • Since the start of last season, only Olivier Giroud (6) has scored more goals as a substitute in the Premier League than Burnley’s Chris Wood (5).
  • Leicester striker Jamie Vardy has failed to score in his last four Premier League games – he last went longer without a goal in February 2017 (a run of seven).
  • Burnley manager Sean Dyche has never won a league match at the King Power Stadium (W0 D2 L3), taking charge once with Watford and four times with the Clarets.

NEWCASTLE V BOURNEMOUTH

3pm Newcastle finally recorded a win in the Premier League last weekend and pulled themselves out of the bottom three, for today at least. A loss here might see them go back down into the bottom three and Bournemouth have been in excellent form this season. They lost 2-1 at home to United last weekend however they were the better team for much of the game and you’d have to say in the end that they were unlucky to lose. They’ve won three of their five away Premier League games this season and they look good value at 2.62 here. We have to see more from Newcastle before considering backing them – one win won’t change their whole season and with Bournemouth in good form we’re happy to back an away win.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Bournemouth to beat Newcastle at 2.62.

MATCH STATS

  • Newcastle have lost both of their Premier League matches against Bournemouth at St. James’ Park – their last home league win against the Cherries was in February 1990 in a second tier match.
  • Bournemouth’s two away Premier League wins against Newcastle are their joint-most against a single opponent – they’ve also won two against Chelsea, Stoke City and West Ham United.
  • Newcastle have only lost their first three home top-flight meetings against one other opponent – rivals Sunderland won their first four such visits to Newcastle between April 1899 and September 1901.
  • Five of the last seven goals scored in Premier League fixtures between Newcastle and Bournemouth have been scored in the 80 th minute or later.
  • Newcastle won their first Premier League match of the season against Watford last time out, and are looking for consecutive league wins for the first time since April.
  • Bournemouth are looking to secure three consecutive away league wins for the first time ever in the top-flight, last doing so in their final three away Championship games in 2014-15.
  • A league-high share 57% of Newcastle’s Premier League goals this season have been headers.
  • Bournemouth have won three of their five away league games this season, just one fewer than they managed across the whole of 2017-18 (4/19).
  • Only Harry Kane (5) has scored more away goals than Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson in the Premier League this season (4).
  • Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson has been involved in 10 goals in 11 Premier League games this season (6 goals, 4 assists) – as many as he was in 28 games in the competition last season (8 goals, 2 assists).

SOUTHAMPTON V WATFORD

3pm Southampton unfortunately found themselves at the end of six goal Manchester City hammering last weekend; however they will have to realise that they won’t be the only team that happens to this season. Indeed City scored another six in the Champions League during the week! They will just have to forget about that fixture and move on – the problem is that they haven’t be playing good football in their other games and it seems obvious that they will face another fight to stay up. Watford surprisingly lost to Newcastle last weekend and after starting the season in red hot form, they have become a little inconsistent just like last season. We can see this being a poor game of football and both sides can cancel each other out – we like the draw at 3.35.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Draw at 3.35.

MATCH STATS

  • Southampton have lost just one of their last 10 matches against Watford in all competitions (W5 D4), though that defeat was at St. Mary’s in the Premier League last season.
  • Only one of Southampton’s 21 home league meetings with Watford has ended in a draw (1-1 in August 2016), with Saints winning 14 to Watford’s six.
  • Southampton are winless in their last seven Premier League games (D3 L4), scoring just three goals and conceding 16 in that run.
  • Southampton are winless in their five Premier League home games this season – they’ve never failed to win any of their first six at home in a single league season in the top four tiers of English football.
  • Six wins and 19 points from 11 games marks Watford’s best ever start to a top-flight campaign.
  • Southampton manager Mark Hughes has won his last four Premier League games against Watford, though all came while he was manager of Stoke.
  • Only Jose Mourinho (6) and Arsene Wenger (8) have won more Premier League games against Watford than Southampton boss Mark Hughes (5).
  • Southampton winger Nathan Redmond has been involved in five goals in his last four Premier League appearances against Watford (4 goals, 1 assist).
  • Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucouré has scored in all three of his Premier League appearances against Southampton (three goals); only two players have scored in their first four against the Saints – Andrew Cole (first five) and Dele Alli.
  • Danny Ings has scored 57% of Southampton’s Premier League goals so far this season (4/7), though only one of these has been scored at St Mary’s.

CRYSTAL PALACE V TOTTENHAM

5.30pm Spurs have been grinding out a lot of good results this season and they found two late goals to keep their Champions League hopes alive on Tuesday night against PSV. They have been very solid against the midtable sides away from home in the Premier League this season and we expect that to continue this evening. Crystal Palace have yet to win a game at home in the Premier League this season and they’ve also lost their last six against Spurs. Looking at the 2018 stats; no team has won more Premier League away games than Spurs and with Crystal Palace in poor form we can’t get away from the Spurs price here at 1.86. That looks great value and the best bet of the day.

BETDAQ BEST BET:
Tottenham to beat Crystal Palace at 1.86.

MATCH STATS

  • Crystal Palace have lost their last six Premier League games against Tottenham Hotspur, scoring just one goal across those matches.
  • Against only two teams have Spurs had a longer Premier League winning run than they have against Crystal Palace (six in a row) – they won seven in a row against Man City (between 2004 and 2007) and Swansea City (between 2012 and 2015).
  • Crystal Palace have never lost seven consecutive top-flight matches against an opponent – they also lost in a row against Arsenal between 2005 and 2015.
  • 25 of the last 26 goals scored in Premier League games between Crystal Palace and Spurs have been netted in the second half – there has been one first half goal scored in the last 14 meetings.
  • Tottenham have won their last five Premier League London derbies – they last had a longer such run in the top-flight between October 1950 and August 1951 (eight in a row).
  • Crystal Palace are winless in their five Premier League home games this season – their longest such run at the start of a league season since 1997-98 (winless in first 15).
  • Tottenham have won more away Premier League games in 2018 than any other side (11). Only once have Spurs won more top-flight away games in a single calendar year (17 in 1960).
  • Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has won eight Premier League games against Crystal Palace – against no side has he won more (also eight against Swansea City).
  • Tottenham’s Harry Kane has scored 24 goals in 37 games in London derbies in the Premier League, at a ratio of 0.65 per game – of players to play in a minimum of five, only Thierry Henry (43 in 59, 0.73) has a better ratio.
  • Only Teddy Sheringham (32) has scored more Premier League goals in London derbies for Spurs than Harry Kane (24) – he is joint-second on the list, alongside Jermain Defoe who also netted 24 times.
