PURPLE PATCH: After his win at the BMW Championship, we decided to take a look at the in-form Tyrrell Hatton’s record in 2020, as he aims to become the highest ranked UK golfer in the world this weekend.

Why Tyrrell Hatton has become the flavour of the week in 2020

There’s not too many golfers who have enjoyed a better 2020 when it comes to form and climbing the rankings than Tyrrell Hatton, and the Englishman can continue his impressive year by winning the Zozo Championship this week. He is currently trading at 24.0 on the BETDAQ betting exchange.

A win at Sherwood Country Club would be a major statement of intent and it would also mean he would take over from Rory McIlroy as the UK number one. It would be the least that Hatton deserves after a busy year which has earned him two event wins so far.

Hatton continued his hot streak by winning the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth a few weeks ago, and he’ll be itching to get back out onto the course for the Zozo Championship in what he hopes won’t be an unlucky 13th event this year.

The 29-year old has enjoyed a purple patch by adding the BMW PGA Championship – his fifth European Tour win – to the Arnold Palmer Invitational triumph back in March, and such form has propelled him to a personal career high of ninth in the world rankings heading into this week’s event at Sherwood Country Club.

Hatton has played 12 events this year, and on top of the two wins at Wentworth and in Florida, he has also secured five top 10s, which includes two third-placed finishes. This has taken him to a total of over £3.9 million in prize money, and he won’t want to finish things there.

Form and momentum are both key in golf, and the Buckinghamshire man will also be aware that another strong performance and position this week would set him up well for the Masters at Augusta in a few weeks’ time.

At a course where Europeans have fared well, Hatton should have every right to believe he can come out on top at Sherwood Country Club this week, and that would only spur him on to continue his purple patch heading into arguably the sport’s biggest major event at Augusta next month.
