IRISH DERBY WEEKEND STARTS TONIGHT AT THE CURRAGH: SHAMROCK looks at the two big races on the card.

The three day Derby meeting at the Curragh gets underway this evening with the Derby itself being staged at 6.30pm tomorrow evening.

I’ll be taking a detailed look athe Derby tomorrow but first a look at a couple of the races this evening.

Firstly, apologies for the lousy nap yesterday. More Questions proved a bitter disappointment.

7:00 eFlow Rewardcard Apprentice Derby (3yo+, 1m 4f, 14 runners)

The apprentices get their chance to shine over the Derby trip and as usual a competitive field goes to post. Shane B Kelly is one of the most experienced riders in the race and is also on one of the best horses Leah Claire who is officially the joint top horse on official ratings. She comes into this race on the back of a narrow defeat at Navan last time out behind Rawnaq in a similar event and should run another sound race with ground and distance to suit. Aidan O’Brien’s King Of The Romans also looks to have a good chance with daughter Anastasia onboard.

7:30 eFlow ‘You First’ International Stakes (Group 3) (3yo+, Class 1, 1m 2f, 4 runners)

Aidan O’Brien dominates the Group race on the card with his two runners comfortably clear on ratings in this four runner event. Of his pair the BETDAQ market favours Most Improved who won the St James’s Palace stakes last season at Royal Ascot but hasn’t been seen for 251 days. At the prices Flying The Flag with super sub Seamie Heffernnan onboard might surprise his stable companion.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Leah Claire (7.00 Curragh)
NEXT BEST: FOllow The Flag (7.30 Curragh)
