SHAMROCK AT DOWN ROYAL: SHAMROCK’s NAP on Friday runs in the Attheraces Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap – the final race on the card at 7.05pm.

The best looks to have been reserved until last on the Down Royal card today.

The Attheraces Ulster Cesarewitch Handicap sees a competitive field of 14 do battle over the 2m 2f trip.

The Dermot Weld trained Notable Graduate is the early favourite on BETDAQ trading at around 3.75.

Although the six-year-old was a beaten favourite over two miles at Dundalk last time out, he was plugging on at the end suggesting the extra trip here should be ideal. He was also a maiden hurdle winner at Galway last year over two miles but this represents his longest distance race to date.

At bigger odds though, I am going to chance Protaras for the Noel Meade stable who have won the last two renewals.

Protaras (around 7.6 on BETDAQ) comes here in good form – my only concern is whether the trip might prove too SHORT !! He was plugging away over 2m 6f last time out at Killarney when second to Courtncatcher.

But it’s likely, given the stables success in this race, that he has been campaigned with this in mind and is a sporting priced Friday nap.
