SHAMROCK STRIKES AGAIN WITH AKLAN: SHAMROCK made it 6 winning NAPS from 8 in 2014 with AKLAN (WON 9/10) in the opener at Navan on Sunday. It was the first leg of what turned out to be a treble for Willie Mullins.

Aklan won well yesterday, but as has been the case recently with several of my naps it was a lot shorter on the final SP than the prices available on BETDAQ earlier in the day.

It started 9/10 having been freely available at around 2.3 at the time of selection. Percentage wise that’s some difference.

Aklan won on his jumping debut and first start since the summer of 2012.

Mullins said: “We’ve been waiting a while for that fellow. He’s had little bits of problems. They’ve been minor enough but have kept him off.

“He’s got a real good engine but he’ll have to brush up his jumping a bit. As the ground gets drier his jumping should improve.”

So it’s now 6 winning naps from 8 this year !!

1 Jan LIEUTENANT COLONEL (NAP) WON EVENS
2 Jan NO BET
3 Jan THE FIRM (NAP) WON 8/15
4 Jan WICKLOW BRAVE (NAP) WON 2/5
5 Jan MOONLIGHT BOY (NAP) PULLED UP
6 Jan URANO (NAP) WON 10/11
7,8,9 Jan NO BET
10 Jan NOT YOUR CALL (NAP) WON 4/5
11 Jan SI C’ETAIT VRAI (NAP) 2nd
12 Jan AKLAN (NAP) WON 9/10

Later on the card Un De Sceaux took another step towards a possible tilt at the Champion Hurdle with a facile success in the Follow Navan On Facebook Hurdle.

Unbeaten in five career starts, the French import was sent off at 1/12 to beat his two rivals and those odds didn’t prove unrealistic as he effortlessly extended his winning sequence to six.

He is around 16 on the BETDAQ ante-post market (below).

No Irish racing on Monday.
