SHAMROCK AT BALLINROBE: SHAMROCK starts a new week with a NAP bet on the Ballinrobe card and a look back to Noble Mission’s success in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh on Sunday.

Just the one winner yesterday (from only two bets after Edelmira was a non runner). Noble Mission in the Tattersalls Gold Cup to give Lady Cecil her first Group 1 success.

Poignantly, Noble Mission is a full-brother to Frankel, trained of course by the late Sir Henry Cecil.

Front running tactics were again deployed on Noble Mission to great effect by James Doyle.

He had a big lead on the turn for home and despite tiring in the closing stages never looked like being caught. In the end Noble Mission was sent off joint favourite with Magician, last season’s Breeders’ Cup Turf winner – but the ground seemed to go against him and the market brought the two level at the off.

Lady Cecil said after the race: “It’s great for all the staff at Warren Place. Our big aim was to win a Group One race and to raise the flag for Henry. I’m very emotional now. I’ve almost 30 horses for Prince Khalid and without the horses you just can’t do it. I’ll have to talk to Teddy (Grimthorpe, owner’s racing manager) but, to be honest, we didn’t think past this about where he might next go. He’s in the Eclipse at Sandown but we’ll have to see how he comes out of this first.”

Jessie Harrington is starting the new flat season in the same kind of form she finished the jumps season with and I am very much with her Rae’s Creek in the 1m 5f maiden at Ballinrobe this evening.

He showed ability last season without winning but this is a weak contest and he should prove good enough. Certainly a reproduction of his second to Venus De Milo at Fairyhouse should prove easily good enough. Venus De Milo has, of course, gone on to great success including wins at Listed and Group 3 level and was runner-up to The Fugue the Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks at York.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Rae’s Creek (6.30 Ballinrobe)
