CALM AHEAD OF THE STORM: No Irish racing Monday so time for SHAMROCK to prepare his Royal Ascot bets this week.

No Irish racing on Monday which gives a welcome day of preparation for the exciting week ahead at Royal Ascot.

There’s a strong Irish challenge as ever and the race of the week from an Irish perspective looks to be the St James’s Palace Stakes on Tuesday.

Five of the nine runners are trained in Ireland – the BETDAQ day of race market is already available (see below) and favours Dawn Approach at 2.45 ahead of Irish Guineas winner Magician at 3.55.

Jim Bolger caught everyone on the hop by stating his intention to run here after his flop in the Derby where he trailed home in last place by 33 lengths.

He patently didn’t stay in the Derby and wasn’t given a hard race when it was obvious this was the case.

Back to the mile trip he will be a different proposition and the fact that Jim sends him back to Royal Ascot (won the Coventry Stakes on this day last year) suggests he’s fit enough to do himself justice.

I’m with him – he’s a BIGGER price tomorrow than he was for the Derby and there was the big question mark about his stamina hovering over him at Epsom.
