SHAMROCK had a winning NAP and NEXT BEST for the SECOND successive day yesterday. He starts with the major racing news…. the end of the Paul Nicholls and Ruby Walsh partnership.
End of an era.
I wasn’t expecting that news overnight, but on reading the detail it does start to make sense.
The partnership between two of jumps racing’s biggest names, Paul Nicholls and Ruby Walsh, has come to an end after more than a decade of success.
Walsh cited travel demands as being one of the chief reasons for the split.
Walsh said Nicholls had been “responsible for some of the most amazing days of my life”.
He told the Irish Examiner: “I started as Paul’s stable jockey in October 2002, but when I chose to live in Ireland, this was always going to be a job that involved a lot of travelling.
“Paul has never been anything but fair and honest since our association began and has been responsible for some of the most amazing days of my life.
“From King Georges and Tingle Creeks, to Champion Chases, World Hurdles and Gold Cups, he has been behind them all.
“With horses like Kauto Star, Denman, Master Minded, Azertyuiop, Strong Flow and Twist Magic, to the current stars Big Buck’s, Silviniaco Conti and Al Ferof, great horses were, and still, are a stable diet in Ditcheat.
Grand National-winning rider Daryl Jacob has been promoted to the number one position at Nicholls’ Ditcheat yard.
It turned out to a good weekend at the Curragh and I landed a winning NAP and NEXT BEST for the second day in a row.
NAP: LEADING LIGHT WON 4/6
NEXT BEST: JUST THE JUDGE WON 2/1
Ballinrobe stage a mixed card tonight and Dermot Weld has sound chances in the opening two races.
Salhooda will be short in the 6.00 but has to win this if she is to play a hand in some of the bigger races she is being campaigned for.
She disappointed at Chester but this is much easier. Sorry about the price, but I have a whiff of a sequence coming along !!
NAP: Salhooda (6.00 Ballinrobe)
