GROUND BOOST FOR AUSTRALIA: Drying ground at Epsom is good news for backers of ante-post favourite Australia, trained by Aidan O’Brien.

There was good news on Monday for connections of Australia ahead of this weekend’s Investec Derby meeting.

The going is now just on the slow side of good.

Clerk of the course Andrew Cooper is still looking at an unsettled forecast for the rest of the week, making firm predictions hard to call.

There is however rain still forecast this week – especially on Wednesday.

Bank Holiday in Ireland and racing for flat and jumps fans alike at Naas and Listowel respectively.

There are four Listed races on the card at Naas.

2:50 Owenstown Stud Stakes (Listed) (3yo+, Class 1, 7f, 14 runners)

Really good to see such a competitive line-up for the first Listed race on this afternoon’s card. Tested is surely worth another chance after her recent sixth in the 1000 Guineas at the Curragh. She was beaten a fair way that day but ran as if in need of the race and this is a lot easier. The better ground should also be to her liking today.

4:00 Alfred Nobel Rochestown (C & G) Stakes (Listed) (2yo, Class 1, 6f, 8 runners)

War Envoy has been well backed on BETDAQ this morning and looks likely to give Aidan O’Brien another success in this race. He won it last year with Stubbs. There was plnety to like about War Envoy’s winning debut at Naas where he travelled well and only had to be pushed out for the win.

4:30 Coolmore Stud E.B.F. Fillies’ Sprint Stakes (Listed) (2yo, Class 1, 6f, 7 runners)

I liked the performance of the Sir Percy daughter Newsletter at the Curragh. She made her debut in soft ground and stayed on in good style to beat Splashtop. The runner-up hasn’t exactly franked the form since but that would be a harsh fact to judge Newsletter on, as she couldn’t have won any more impressively.

5:05 Lacken Stakes (Listed) (3yo, Class 1, 6f, 9 runners)

Seas Of Wells did well to win on debut at the Curragh where she justified favouritism but this is much tougher. Sudirman is definitely the class act in the race. He won the Group 1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes last season and might be good enough on debut to land this – the blinkers are on for the first time today.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: War Envoy (4.00 Naas)
NEXT BEST: Tested (2.50 Naas)
WIN: Newsletter (4.30 Naas)
WIN: Sudirman (5.05 Naas)
