ROSCOMMON MONDAY NAP: SHAMROCK’s nap on Monday runs in the novice chase at Roscommon tonight.
Frustrating yesterday with then nap Only Mine getting pipped a head in the Group 3 Ballyogan Stakes at the Curragh. Amazing performance from Penny Pepper to win, having been slowly away at the six furlong start.
Soft ground at Roscommon tonight for their mixed card.
A good looking novice chase on the card at 7.50 in which preference is for the Willie Mullins trained Townshend who was a faller in the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase at the Punchestown Festival but bounced back nicely to win well at the course last month. He stayed on really well to beat another of tonight’s rivals Potter’s Point and that seven length superiority should be confirmed tonight – despite being 4lb worse off.
Landofhopeandglory could be the biggest danger on his chasing debut. He was very useful over the smaller obstacles – rated as high as 142 which puts him a little ahead of Townshend but doesn’t yet have the chasing experience.
Peregrine Run won four in a row last year but might need better ground to show his best form and is another making his chasing debut.
