NO IRISH RACING TODAY: SHAMROCK looks back on the impressive win of Valseur Lido at Fairyhouse yesterday in in the Drinmore Chase.

It was hard not to be taken by the performance of Valseur Lido in the Grade 1 Drinmore Chase at Fairyhouse yesterday.

The Willie Mullins trained five-year–old won, what looked to be a very competitive renewal, with consummate ease.

My selection, The Tullow Tank was sent off the favourite but could never get competitive and finished a disappointing fifth.

Willie Mullins said of the winner: “He jumped well and for his second time over fences was very clever. He keeps doing more than I think he’s able to do. He’s much more comfortable over fences. I’d be thinking of the RSA, or the JLT, at the moment. I wouldn’t be looking to go back in trip with him at this stage.”

There was sad news for Willie Mullins earlier in the day. His French recruit Allez Colombieres was pulled up early on in the Riyal Bond Novice Hurdle with a pelvic injury that ultimately proved fatal.

Mullins was initially hopeful that the signs for Allez Colombieres were positive, however it was later revealed that the injury had been more serious than first imagined and vets were unable to save the horse from internal injuries.
